#hudcon analysis

Recently, @rosegarden06 put this video back on our timelines (plus created the gifs with captions too!), and I couldn’t resist talking about it. There have been multiple instances of Hudson with no filter and Connor having to rein him in, but this stood out to me as one of the only times the roles have been reversed (so to speak). So, let’s talk about it!

Connor is talking about the conversations they had in preparation for the sex scenes. They’ve both talked about these conversation similarly after this moment and how they were essentially open to whatever and felt very comfortable with each other.

In the beginning of the video, Connor talks about telling Hudson “You can do whatever you want to me, however you want to me, and it was kinda vice versa.” Connor says this confidently with no signs of awkwardness or joking. Hudson smiles fondly (can we talk about how soft that smile is - they seriously fell in love on that set) when Connor is saying this and nods along in agreement. You can tell Hudson knows what Connor said is kinda unexpected with his little laugh, but he seems like he’s remembering the moment fondly at the same time.

The moment I really want to talk about is this one:

Connor

Connor confidently answered the question, but because what he said was a little unexpected, the audience started laughing (along with Hudson). What I noticed is Connor start to feel a little awkward, probably because he wasn’t really joking even though he told the story in a funny way. When we see him start to get a little shy, he doubles down (in more of an actual joking tone “I’ll do anything! Let’s go!”) and then looks at Hudson for reassurance with a awkward laugh/smile. I love this little interaction because it shows another example of them being each other’s emotional support - even back in November 🥹.

Hudson

When Connor first answers the question, we see Hudson smiling fondly and laughing a little like he doesn’t quite know what to say/do. In my opinion, this is very sweet and wholesome, and shows a different side of their dynamic.

However, once Connor starts feeling a little unsure, getting a little more chaotic and looking to him, we can see Hudson start to take notice. He reaches out to pat Connors thigh (one of his favorite places it seems) in a manner that reads equally comforting as it does “that’s enough now” 😆. All the while continuing to smile fondly of course.

Hi guys! Part 3 of me nitpicking all the Russian stuff in the Heated Rivalry. Now we must discuss the funniest part - swearing.

Of course swearing is so country specific and they did really try, but we all know where all that budget went (on pasta servings and dozens of round lamps for the penthouse of course).

So first let's discuss the way Russians swear. Or specifically Russian boys swear. I guess this goes for all the boys worldwide. You don't use frick, heck, damn, shoot, darn, flip or other mild stuff. You say the word "fuck" all the time. The more you say it the cooler you look.

And Ilya doesn't say it even once. Sad. For some reason in Russian he can't say the F word.

During his phone calls with his brother however he swears like he is home schooled too polite child? Idk why? Maybe because it's his brother? But in Russia such politeness doesn't exist. Especially if your brother calls you "whiny faggy boy".

He says the infamous "suka blyat'" once and "blyat'" when he stubbed his toe (Rose Landry is to blame for sure).

Let's discuss the way they can expand the vocabulary next season. Below is my little dictionary of swear words (with my audios of course).

These nouns are used as an exclamation:

suka!(f) - bitch

blyat!(f) -bitch! (it's analogue).

Also this is what we can say during sex as analogue to "fuuuuuck, hollander!". Example below.

suka blyat!(f) (used together for bigger effect)

These are used in sentences. Now we need to use the right cases, delcentions and all that fun stuff. Masculine(m) and feminine(f) forms are different. The most commons ones arfe below:

hren'(f) -analogue of shoot! - mildest way to say fuck

her(m), hern'ya(f) - now we are talking, it's not like real mat [mʌt] (Russian word for foul language), but really close to it

huy(m), huyn'ya(f) - this is the real word for fuck, this will be bleeped and censored. I guess it's even stronger then fuck. It's considered the rudest option

When I check translation of Shane saying "why the fuck do you think it's okey to sext me before the game", they translate it using the word huy. That's why I expected dialect coach allow Ilya to use it while arguing with his brother.

Words Alexey and Ilya used for each other. Can be used in sentences "You are such an ...."

Svolotch' (m) - jerk - commonly used

Pridurok (m) - dumbass

Mudak (m) - jackass (wasn't used, but is really common)

Zadnitsa (f) - literal translation of asshole, but we don't say it as often. We use mudak instead.

Word 'fuck' used as a verb

Trahnut' - to fuck

Vyebat' - really sexy/raunchy/rude analogue for the verb "to fuck"

The only incorrectly translated swear word was during monologue (see video) when Ilya said "They don't care about me". Maybe dialect coach was not available that day? That's the only reason I can think of why he said "ya im pofig". He should have said "Im na menya pofig". Do you think he memorized incorrectly or what?

To sum up: they tried their best! But in next season I want, scratch that, I NEED real swearing. Below are two perfect examples, Jacob should take some notes please (jk!!)

Okay okay so what about sexy vocabulary + swearing during sex? Should we discuss it? For scientific purposes of course.

Now for the record, I won't just dismiss the idea that H/K was a thing some time in the past. But I still couldn't reconcile with the notion of H/K actively dating during HR season 1 shooting and/or promo, or even currently dating.

Because such scenario only raise more questions for me. And I still can't find satisfying answer for it. Well, satifying for me, at least. If any of you, friends, can find your answer and be at peace with it, I am happy for you, truly.

Valentine for Who? Is it truly Valentine?

VDay Story is gift that keeps giving. Because we can interpret it in any way we want. But that's in itself is a problem, isn't it?

In communication science, back in uni, our lecture basically taught us that communication is the process to transfer meaning from the sender to the recipent. While message is like a vessel for the meaning. The meaning intended by the sender has to be the one received and understood by the recipient for the process to succeed. If the recipient doesn't get the same meaning as what the sender intended, it's a failed process. And almost every communication has one big important meaning to transmit.

On a side note, that's one of the reason why many advertising and PR wording never use definitive language. One of the case was the hotel where I spent my internship.

Back to the topic, so in VDay story, the message is that photo collage. The meaning should be something along the lines of how he loved her for years and will continue to love her. And yet, the message left people with multiple different takes. There are many meanings we could make.

Why didn't you just make a post with clear meaning? It's just VDay, not wedding day. I don't celebrate valentine so maybe I don't know the logistics but as far as I know, this day celebrate love. More specific, the love you have with your partner.

But he made extra steps in his message that blur the meaning:

Why was C there?

Why C was the one with a heart on his face?

What's with the vague poetry? Can't you just say, "I love you, "? Just like how you say "I love you, C" and "I love you forever, C" before in your comment and even verbally?

I once found a comment that interest me about this post. That commenter said they even assumed that H didn't want to make this post. That's why it's in the story and not in his feed. Because IG Story will dissapear and feed will stay there.

Now, all of these mental gymnastics I take is not something I pull out of thin air. The message make it possible for us to do mental gymnastic. Because the sender doesn't want to convey the meaning the message is supposed to convey. And this is not fiction. It's supposed to be a simple message from a bf to his gf. Why the sender made it ambiguous? In communication, if the sender doesn't want to transmit his meaning, then what's the point? Unless he has to hide his meaning somehow.

The sender purposely insert another person who supposedly not in romantic relationship with him

The sender put the mark on this unrelated personel instead of his supposed partner

The sender can wrote beautifully, singing praises to his supposed partner but no clear message about his feeling other than gratitude(?)

Instead the sender had, in multiple occasions, convey his meaning plainly about the unrelated personel in his VDay story via more direct message both written and verbally

This VDay Story, in itself, is a case of ambiguous message: what did H want to say, really? What was the true meaning exactly?

In its relation to the big scenario, it doesn't show a picture of clear cut long-term relationship we hear all this time. If you couldn't even say what you mean with direct message without adding things to said message, what did you want to hide?

Addition

Looking at the collage again, from bottom to top I feel like watching the montage of separation in romantic relationship but the warmth of friendship is still there. Especially if I assume the lower the position, the older the photo is. And the higher the position, the more recent the event.

Two pics at the bottom I can say they have the feeling of attraction between those two people. Maybe because I can see both of their faces.

Two pics at the center, the one where he hugs her, I can feel the joy but I can't say about the attraction. And the pic where they played around on the couch, frankly, gives the camaraderie between friends and some fondness, too.

But the sore thumb for me are the two pics at the top. The photo of the girl, the atmosphere of it especially give me the feeling of memory. Something in your past, but not in your present let alone in your future. And this photo also gave me the sense of separation: only she in her environment without him anymore. And picture CAN convey meaning and sometimes capture feeling.

The last photo on the right corner. New person enters your life. He becomes the most important part of your life, hence the heart. The old person still in your life but she's not your focus anymore. She is still important in some capacity, but not like this new person. And this new person knows. He is looking at you, and you're looking at him in this photo.

I honestly feel like they’re the only ones who truly understand whatever vibe they have going on, and the fact that their friendship is so intensely private just raises so many red flags. There are still a few things that leave me completely confused.

Whenever I watch them interact, the thought in my head is pretty loud and clear: "these two feel something, and it’s something incredibly strong." Plus, literally everything that came out of the Met and the after-parties—the Page Six article, that photo Hudson posted of Connor in the bathroom at the GQ after-party, the anons letting us know they were constantly all over each other and went to the bathroom together twice for 15 minutes... like, it's all a bit too much for just a friendship.

But then Hudson goes back to Vancouver, and his relationship with K gets flaunted by friends at every single opportunity (and by DM, of course). She’s there, it seems obvious (?), I mean she’s always been around. But DeuxMoi’s insistence is getting ridiculous, not to mention the whole marriage situation...

I really felt a shift during SNL, and I got that exact same vibe at the Met. The problem is, after the photos Hudson posted and his comment on Threads, everything just went downhill. Now, every single thing that drops feels like heavy damage control to cover up a massive hole.

Sorry for the long rant, but there's just so much to unpack and analyze here.

Aika

It should come as no surprise to see Aika help him and his team push Hudkate, as Aika is a representation of Hudson’s new life, wherein his newfound fame takes him around the world. Seeing as Hudson and Aika have formed a bond that exceeds that of a strictly professional relationship, her making nice with Katelyn only helps in showcasing the connection between Hudson’s new life, and his old, pre-fame one. This means that Katelyn isn’t left behind (at least emotionally) when it comes to being interwoven into Hudson’s new life with the (new) friends he’s made along the way, thereby messaging that Katelyn isn’t going anywhere. At least, for now.

On that note, given that Hudson and Katelyn appear to display neutral-to-negative energy when it comes to displaying the relationship, I am not surprised Aika would lend a helping hand in making sure Hudson’s audience gets a piece of Katelyn as much as possible. Even without directly involving Hudson himself, who seems to be unwilling to feed the public beyond the bare [hetero] minimum possible. After all, the hets love to fill in the gaps. They’ve been doing real person fiction for eons, ever so brazenly too.

It is clear to me that Aika is doing this to alleviate the pressure both Hudson (and Katelyn) may have to perform beyond what they may be comfortable with. It is up to fans to consider whether they would prefer to see more explicit hudkate content as opposed to the dripped appearances Katelyn makes with Hudson’s team/friends.
