Here they are!! Love these little fellas <3

I've always enjoyed the theropod build which the stingers have, and I'm a sucker for strike class dragons. I changed the position of the tail, having it set higher up in a vaguely scorpionlike position. It felt more natural to me.

I also added a bunch of markings since the OG design felt rather flat; they've got a kind of tropical feel to them now. The webbed feet and sails are inspired by the basilisk lizard - since some are canonically able to run on water, it seemed fitting.

I wanted to include the vestigial wings somehow, so I fully leaned into the raptor look with the arm frills. They're still flightless, but I imagine that the 'wings' aid in jumping and making tight turns.

Random facts:

Hiccup is my favorite character. (Big surprise). He is followed closely by a tie of Toothless and Astrid.

Timberjacks! Honestly their original design is pretty believable already. If there's any dragon in the franchise that's capable of flight it's the timberjack. But here's my own spin on it anyways!

If it isn't obvious enough, these guys are heavily pterosaur derived. Specifically nyctosaurus, which inspired the antler-like horns. I decided to split the wings into four to make up for the original design's lack of legs. Timberjacks also have speckled wings, which I always thought were really pretty so of course I went ham with the freckles.

I doubt these guys wing's could actually slice right through trees, but they're pretty cool nonetheless.

They've always been so cool to me. I love Stormfly's blue and yellow colours and the spots on their wings, such a wicked character design. The character designers did actually take inspiration from tyrannosaurus rex! (Plus ostriches, parrots etc) which is pretty neat.

I went for a secretary bird approach. I wanted them to have that dinosaur look but still light-footed. This version is probably only capable of very short distance flight, but I imagine they have very light bones. I debated giving them feathers, but settled for quills and frills. The head crest, colours and wing shape most likely evolved for courtship display purposes. I mean, have you seen their mating dance?

The spines on the tail run along the side, and they whip out in a side-to-side motion like a whip. I gave them spurs too and decided that they've got some powerful legs that could really do some real damage with a good kick.

Another big winged guy!! Since Typhoomerangs look so similar to Timberjacks I decided that they both get the pterosaur treatment. My hc is that they are closely related! (They also share some lineage with Monstrous Nightmares).

These guys always struck me as unhinged vultures, definitely terrifying to encounter. They are highly territorial, solitary dragons with the ability to coat themselves in flames by excreting kerosene solutions from their skin in a similar manner to Nightmares. The stripe patterns that you see are the ignition areas, which are slightly sticky. A Typhoomerang hunting in their forest territory generates quite a bit of ash, and this frequently gets stuck to the tips of their wings and head - giving the impression that they have grey markings.

Like many stoker class dragons they use their fiery displays in courtship rituals, with males burning elaborate scorch marks into the ground to attract mates. This practice is not unlike the white-spotted pufferfish courtship display, which creates radially symmetrical patterns in the sand.

Soooo I've decided to open up HTTYD fic and doodle requests! First off, though, there's some rules to go by:

I will write or draw for any friendships in the fandom (for example, Toothless and Hiccup, Snotlout and Fishlegs) but in terms of ships I will only write/draw for Hiccstrid. But I would also love to do platonic fics and art!! The HTTYD gang makes me soft, and I would love requests for them :)

Keep your requests MINOR FRIENDLY. That means NO NSFW. Character death/injury is perfectly fine to request, but smut absolutely IS NOT. If your request deals with smut in any way, I will delete it (and block you).

Please don’t make the request anything longer than a oneshot or more complicated than a basic pencil/digital sketch!
