HRG was formed by E A Halford, Guy Robbins and R Godfrey (also the G in GN), this firm was the spiritual successor to Frazer Nash, producing thoroughbred sportscars in the vintage style until 1955, after which sales slumped, the company was to continue as a light engineering works until 1966. The HRG 1500 was the companies second model, introduced in 1939 succeeding the 1.5 litre, alongside the 1100. Originally introduced pre-war with a 1435cc S4 OHC Singer engine, though any survivor, like this car is likely to have acquired one of two post war Singer units, either the 1496cc long stroke 12 or the short stroke Singer SM of 1497cc. Capable of 80mph plus, with pin point steering early 1930s looks, though with a harsh ride. The last 12 cars (1953) have the fractionally larger Singer engine, have hypoid axles and hydraulic brakes.
