Long Term Couple Relationships
Why is it that some couples are able to stay together and work through issues and others are in constant chaos? As I have worked with couples over the years I have noticed the following characteristics of couples who are healthy:
 1. People in healthy couples own their role in a problem or issue.Â
 2. Couples that operate as a team not a dictatorship or parent-child dynamic (codependent)Â
 3. Couples who do not set unrealistic expectations for each other.
 4. Couples who do not expect their partners to fulfill all their emotional needs. 5. Couples who know their family of origin issues and when these issues get triggered.Â
 6. Couples who have individual hobbies and friends and are not glued to each other.Â
 7. Couples who have a friendship base to their relationship.Â
 8. Couples who share similar goals for their lives.Â
 9. Couples who are able to communicate and compromise and fight fairly.Â
 10. Couples who respect and value each other as individuals.Â
 11. Couples who trust each other and feel a secure attachment to each other. 12. Couples that make their relationship a priority and make efforts to spend time together.
