One of our favorite graphics: the New York City subway token. This token design featuring the cut out 'Y' is, in my mind, the ultimate in urban iconography. Brass tokens such as this were used here in New York City for fifty years between 1953 and 2003 replacing coins and pre-dating the current metro-card system as a means to ride the subway. A round trip on the graffiti covered subway of my youth required two tokens and the most you could buy at a time was a 10-pack.
