everyone shut up
yeah…. yeahh thats the good stuff..
henriad characters on social media
richard ii: luxury lifestyle instagram influencer. he is posting the most diabolical GRWMs with 28-step skincare routines and casually flexing his insane wealth. dangerously "labubu matcha rave dubai chocolate"-adjacent. unboxing videos, shopping hauls, watch me style [x], things in my mansion that just make sense, etc.
aumerle: shadow account on facebook that he uses to comment praises on every article about richard and reports everyone who criticizes him
bolingbroke: only has a linkedin where he passive aggressively vagueposts, first about the need to get a proper estate lawyer to secure your legal inheritance, then later about failing as a parent by not disciplining your children enough
hal: twitter account that he's constantly getting reprimanded for by his publicity agents. posts god-tier shitposts which he's amassed a cult following for. frequently publicly clowns on his dad but it's all a part of his plan for when he deletes everything & comes back with a fresh new professional account
hotspur: spends all his waking time arguing on reddit
ned poins: posts tiktoks of him and the guys doing stupid shit at the boar's head, frequently live streams the pranks they play on falstaff, has gotten a huge amount of followers
falstaff: i can't bring myself to assign him 4chan. he probably has a dumb ass reddit account where he makes up stories on r/aita but gets caught by hal and pretends he did it on purpose. poins posts a read-aloud of it to his tiktok.
kate percy: tumblr account that aesthetically hasn't changed since 2014. reblogs pastel info graphics about healthy communication in relationships and some current politics, but only if they relate to what hotspur's involved in. posts vents about hotspur growing distant tagged #delete later but doesn't actually delete them in the hopes that he'll see them (he won't).

just had the thought "maybe bolingbroke was hotspur's falstaff" which i'm not sure scans at all but i am contemplating. like. hal is not the only one dealing with disapproval from his father. northumberland doesn't treat hotspur like a complete disappointment, but he spends a lot of the only scene they share in 1H4 berating his son for being unreasonable. overemotional. like a woman.
even in richard ii, we've barely met hotspur before we see him getting chastised by his father for not recognizing bolingbroke. these lines are usually played for comedy, but you could read them as pretty harsh, a moment of genuine anger or disdain from northumberland the second his son slips up.
but bolingbroke doesn't get angry. bolingbroke acts honored to meet him and promises to return his love. and we don't see much of this dynamic onstage, but the way hotspur talks about it in 1H4 makes it clear that bolingbroke was extremely complimentary. a "king of smiles" who didn't criticize him. who might have seemed more proud of hotspur than his father ever had.
until hotspur realizes it was only ever flattery. he was always being used. and then all he can do is go running back to his father. go to war for him.
which is maybe not completely unlike hal in 2H4 hearing falstaff talk shit about him and never interacting with him again until the banishment! instead going back to his father when he's on his deathbed! going to war in france because that's what his father told him to do! in many many ways it is not the same dynamic but there could be parallels. if you're crazy.

feeling very very normal about the fact that hal specifically says he wants to absorb/claim hotspur's honor by killing him but then when he's actually standing over hotspur's body he says take your accolades with you. they're not mine; they go with your spirit; i can't keep them. is this kindness? hal finally coming to respect his rival? is it pity? or is it just the cynical realization that falstaff is right, that this kind of intangible honor didn't get hotspur anywhere, it doesn't mean anything at all?

teaching my kiddos theatre games with shakespeare inspired callouts has to make a long story short led to 27 girls running around backstage screaming “EAT WORMS, BRAVE PERCY” and air sword fighting each other which is not the quote but perhaps better than what even shakespeare could envision
