One of the main reasons why I consider Hotgear to be fandom racism is that it’s White prioritization. Static Shock is a black lead show with lots of diversity, your main ship or OTP for the show should really involve a person of color. It’s racist to ship the only white people in a diverse show. Focusing on the only white characters in a diverse is also racist. In Hotgear fanfics Static is barely in them and he’s the main character of the show. Richie is the second character of the show and Hotstreak is just a villain. They barely interact with each other in show and when they do Hotstreak is awful to Richie. Hotgear is white prioritization. White prioritization is when people pay more attention to white characters over characters of color who are more important or they’re main characters and Static is the main character while Richie is the second main character. Hotstreak is once again a villain. White prioritization is apart of fandom racism. You could easily ship Richie with Static or ship Hotstreak with Static or ship Static with anyone but noo people choose to ship Richie with Hotstreak. I’ve seen people say they ship it like a crack ship but they don’t treat it like a crack ship. Crack ships aren’t suppose to have good serious fanart and good fanfics about them. Hotgear isn’t a crack ship it’s fandom racism.
