The Marauders as Hot Space by Queen album cover
Sometimes I have an urge to write a Marauders band au but I hardly know how bands and the music industry work let alone if it is set in the 70s. But if I were to write one, it'll go something like this: While playing guitar, Remus hears Sirius sing and he falls in love with him as it is bound to happen. James is supposed to play the drums but forgot his drumsticks on the sofa. Peter betrays them by selling their music without their knowledge. Sirius and Remus suspect each other for it but they find out the truth in like 12 minutes and continue snogging each other's faces off. James writes a song about Lily. The end.

x “never forget this photo or his reaction to it when surprised with it at that Hot Space signing session”
is that what’s happening in this picture? Or is this something else entirely
Lol, no *this* is his reaction to it
Never fails to crack me up. So ‘OMG what was I *thinking*???’
so i read a post about Hot Space「some queen fans: best album. John and Freddie love it and should be protected! Brian & Roger evil and haters; what actually happened: hot space flops and Queen almost goes into debt, NO ONE likes Body Language except Freddie, John had less control over the album than people think, Roger hates all of it, Brian actually is the most open minded of the 4; ALL queen members, ESPECIALLY John and Freddie: ah yes, a failure. let’s not do that again.」is any of it true?
Okay let’s break this down shall we. The impression I get from various interviews and things is this:
After the success of Another One Bites the Dust, Freddie thought they should explore more dance/funk/disco music
John was on board with this
Crystal is on record somewhere saying that initially, ALL of them were enthusiastic. I think the result of the album very quickly soured Brian and Roger’s hindsight a little, but that’s just my opinion
Brian is on record as feeling “roped out” by Body Language because he felt it was an “overtly gay anthem” and due to the fact that the band had “friends of every persuasion,” he wanted everybody to be able to relate. I understand the sentiment but also: lmao
Roger has also said he didn’t want the music to sound like it was from a gay bar. Before anyone who may not be aware of Roger Taylor’s History of Allyship clutches their pearls, it’s ONLY because he doesn’t appear to be a huge fan of the disco/dance vibe of music. (He himself co-own(ed?)s a gay bar).
Hot Space comes out and is a flop, although I don’t know if they were close to being in debt tbh. But it wasn’t popular and it had become a source of internal tension
In the end, I don’t believe any of them liked it as a whole, and they all recognize that it didn’t do well and maybe they went too far out on the limb. Roger loves Under Pressure, but I don’t know how wild he is about the rest of the songs in there
The Works was then them going back to a more rock-oriented style, I think as a reassurance to both them and their audience
So TLDR, It’s true Brian and Roger don’t like it—but I don’t think they were in total opposition the entire time— and in the end, yeah none of them were that thrilled with it. It did flop but I feel like they probably had enough money at this point to not be in danger of debt, it just probably didn’t make as much as they were hoping. That’s just a guess though, I’ve never seen them talk about debt in regards to Hot Space
In my own opinion, they hate Hot Space too much but certain Queen fans hype it up too much too. May be controversial, but Under Pressure and Las Palabras de Amor are the best songs on there, Cool Cat is fun, and Life Is Real is nice. The rest are varying degrees of “meh” to “absolutely not”
Hope that helped a bit!
