The story of Regulus Black and Kreacher is one of the most tragic and overlooked in the entire series, and it is never shown in the films.
Regulus grew up at the center of the Black family, raised with the ideology of blood purity. As a young man, he joined the Death Eaters and admired Lord Voldemort, until he discovered something that changed everything.
When Voldemort needed to test the defenses of the cave where he would hide Salazar Slytherin's locket, he used Kreacher as a test subject. The elf was forced to drink the potion protecting the Horcrux and then left there to die. But Kreacher managed to return to the Black house because of a prior order from his master to come back. When Regulus heard about the suffering Kreacher endured, he realized that Voldemort did not value the lives of even those who served him.
That was the turning point. Regulus decided to betray Voldemort in secret. He returned to the cave with Kreacher, swapped the real Horcrux with a fake one containing a note signed R.A.B., and ordered Kreacher to escape and destroy the locket. Regulus stayed behind and died after drinking the potion, sacrificing himself in silence.
What makes it even more powerful is Kreacher’s perspective. He only ever felt truly understood by Regulus. While other members of the family ignored or mistreated him, Regulus showed him an unusual level of respect for a house elf. That is why Kreacher admired him so deeply. His loyalty was not just magical obedience. It was genuine affection.
Later, when Harry Potter begins to treat Kreacher with respect, the elf’s attitude changes completely, almost as if he is responding to the memory of the only master who ever truly valued him.
I do not take credit for the art or story. It was found and edited from Hogwarts Humor Hub on facebook 💕 But if I was a student at Hogwarts when Hermione was there I would have totally joined her club for helping house elves more rights!
