Grounding Hope [Hope x Nibs]
Nibs had made his way to Hopeâs room since he knew he had to tell her of her punishment. Stepping into the room, he raised his hand up so that he could speak first. âBefore you say anything, you snuck out and broke the rules. This means that I need to make your punishment harsher. I used magic to make sure that you canât hurt yourself in this room, you canât leave this room and you will have meals brought and stored in that fridge. I am the only one that can physically come into this room due to the charm. It will not be lifted until your punishment is over. Apparently two weeks of a punishment isnât enough to teach you a lesson so you will be grounded here for a month. No arguing and no talking back.â
Hope was doing her hair when she saw Nibs walking in. She didnât say anything as everything he was saying Zach had already explained to her. âIâm not going to argue.â She responded. âIâm assuming the fridge is because you donât plan on visiting that much. Good to know.â
âThere are some things I need to take care of besides you are being punished. It isnât a punishment if there is someone here to entertain you Hope. You need to take time to think about your punishment and why you are being punished. And the fridge is in case you have leftover or get hungry while I am working that way you donât have to be worried about being too hungry since the fridge will stock itself with whatever food you want to eat.â
âIâm being punished for no reason. You are the one that says Iâm âold enoughâ to make my own choices. So why are you grounding me like a child? You donât get to treat me like an adult one second and then the next act like Iâm ten.â She responded turning to look at him.
âYou are being punished because you broke your last punishment. Clearly if you canât take a punishment and let it run its course then you arenât old enough to make your own choices. Show me you are responsible and I wonât have to ground you like a child.â
âThat makes no sense, I shouldnât be punished at all. I should be able to leave when I want, drink when I want, or be with who I want. You never have a problem before I snuck out so this is a bit much. I didnât do anything compared to what I did in the past.â
âYour mother told me to pick the punishment so this is the punishment. I already told you that you can be with whoever you want that is fine. You have an imprint now so that doesnât matter. I always had a problem but I was going through some things that needed to be addressed with your mother.â
âYou are always going through things. You and mom, itâs a miracle to get either of your attention and when I do itâs only enough to punish me. I was going through stuff too dad that I needed you for. When I started sleeping around you werenât there to say no or to talk to me about it. You waited until Stiles told you and then I was punished. Mom wasnât there when Jack was hitting on me but she had enough time to kick Zach out. Both you only care when shit hits the fan. When itâs too late to fix something. You donât care that I needed you way before then.â
âI want to be there and I am trying to be there for you Hope. Hell, I was there when you needed me to take you to Zach because Liam broke your bond. If you needed me you could have come and talked to me too. I figured you knew what you were getting yourself into, I want to trust in the fact that I had raised my daughter to be strong and independent. I did not want to be too controlling because when people are too controlling then they tend to do the opposite of what you want and it just causes more problems in the long run. If people donât learn from their mistakes then how are they to learn at all? Your mother and I wonât always be able to be there for you Hope. We canât always step in and save the day. I donât want you to be too dependent on us because soon enough you will move out of the castle and live somewhere with a family of your own. We can only hold your hand for so long Hope.â
âI wanted you to hold my hand when I was hit on for the first time. Iâm not asking for much, I can handle myself. To the point where I donât even need Zach to protect me or am anywhere near dependent on him. And that sucks because all he wants to do is be there for me and take care of me and yet I was raised to be independent and strong. I donât know what itâs like to depend on someone. You are my parents you should want to save the day for me and make me do it myself every single time, but I did and I never complained. Now you want to be parents and ground me for doing something I have always done. Do you know no one came to talk to me after my siblings died? No one and I didnât need them to because I am so used to doing this shit by myself so I donât understand why I am being grounded. I didnât understand when mom was doing and I certainly donât understand now.â
âIf someone was hitting on you chances are I would have killed them and I donât think you would want that overprotective dad image to be glued to you through school because then kids would tease you about that instead. You are being grounded because your mother originally grounded you because you were drunk off your ass talking about things that you shouldnât be talking about. I am enforcing the punishment that you broke. If you want me to be there for you then tell me that. I can not read your mind Hope.â
âThe guards dad, you donât think I wanted you to get them away from me? To stop using the fact that when we were alone it was alright to touch me? I didnât know how to come to you or mom and ask for help. And as I child I shouldnât need to. You saw me change, you noticed I wasnât the same what I was I supposed to do scream that I needed someone? The kids teased me anyway it wouldnât have mattered. I donât even know why I am telling you any of this, you donât care. No one cared why I was drunk. My mom didnât even ask she just grounded me. I canât wait to move out and just continue to live the same way. You guys wonât even notice, independent and strong right dad? Thatâs all that matters to anyone in this family.â
âYou want us to sit down and have a therapy session right now? Fine, letâs do that then. How did you feel when your siblings were killed? Why were you drunk?â He asks while sitting down.
âNo, what are you doing? No I donât want to talk about any of that, Iâm fine. Iâve gotten over it. You can leave and focus on whatever problems you and mom have.â
Nibs shook his head, âNo, you want to talk about this stuff then letâs talk about it. That way you can get everything out that you need to.â He responds.
Hope sighed running a hand through her hair, âI really donât want to do this. We donât have to talk about anything. We were okay before I said anything, I should have just stayed silent.â
âAccording to you we do, so let it out. You want to speak about how you feel then now is the time to do it Hope. You have my full attention.â
âI donât even know where to start.â She responded honestly.
âWell I donât know how you are feeling so you will need to be the one that finds somewhere to start. How about start from the beginning.â
âThe beginning? I donât know...I guess...after you guys told me you were expecting TJ and momâs parents came back you both got so busy. It was hard to get your attention and thatâs when the guards starting paying extra attention to me. I didnât want to tell you guys cause you were so occupied with other things. But I really wish one of you would have stopped and just payed attention.â
âWe were busy trying to make sure your grandparents didnât cause us to lose your little brother since as you know your grandfather does not have a great history with this family. I am sorry for not noticing but you should have said something to me, I would have addressed it right away but since I wasnât aware of it, I couldnât.â
âI know but while you were doing that I was trying to figure out what all the attention meant and I was having the wrong people telling me what I supposed to be feeling and doing. I didnât even know what I was telling you, I didnât know how to have that conversation or even address the issue. I didnât understand.â
âWhat people were you talking to during that time? Who was giving you this advice about how to feel and what to do?â He asks in confusion wondering who was giving her such bad advice in the castle.
âThe guards, the royals, people that used to work here. And I believed them because of the way I thought loved worked. All I saw was guys looking at me the way you looked at mom so I thought it was normal, obviously as I got older I realized I was wrong but back then it seemed right.â
âI donât look at your mother with just lust you know. Why would the royals tell you something like that? It makes no sense.â He responds while confused at the idea that the guards and royals would say such a thing. âNone of them do that to you now do they?â
âIt wasnât just lust dad it was more, they wanted me to feel special and once they got what they wanted I didnât matter anymore. The royals wanted to sleep with me so of course they werenât going to tell me to ignore them or that what they were saying was wrong.â
âThey donât do that anymore do they? Are they still working here?â He asks with his eyebrows furrowing together as he knows how he will deal with them.
Hope shook her head, âNot since I got with Zach. They tend to leave me alone now. I mean I am trying to get them to respect Zach, but they donât talk to me. And it doesnât matter, they did it and itâs over with. They are good at their jobs and they leave me alone so it shouldnât be an issue.â
âWell now that I am aware of what they have done, they will pay the consequences for their actions. With new kids on the way, I am not letting them think that they can do that with them. I will take care of it. What else is there that you would like to talk about?â
âItâs mostly my personal guards and one of moms. The royals I havenât seen much of so I donât even think they come around anymore.â She replies. âWhy didnât you check on us after the sets of twins died? You didnât even remember who we were and when you gained your memory back you never came to us to see how we were doing? You never stopped by...why?â
âWell they wonât be around anymore. I am replacing the staff. Because your mother is my number one priority. I needed to make sure that we were stable or else that would affect how efficiently I would be able to handle any situation that would arise with your brother and yourself. I was still trying to figure out what it would mean to mourn children I couldnât even remember. I have been so focused on trying to get my life together and it was...it was just hard. I donât want to disappoint you and your brother but how can I be there for you when you see how much of a mess I am in my own relationship and position in this castle. You need someone with their life together to be an example, not someone who is a mess otherwise what would that teach you?â
âBut we needed you. Even after you got your memories back you and mom never said anything about it to us. Or how she lost another child. You never said anything, we just had to go about our day like it never happened. I understand that you were going through your own problems but it always seems like you guys are going through something. When will we be your number one priority? When will our problems be the only thing you are focused on?â
âWhen you come to me and tell me what your problems are. I drop what I am doing and I help you do I not? I can not read your mind as I have stated earlier nor can I understand what you find comfortable or uncomfortable. If you are uncomfortable speak up and you know that I will listen. I can not babysit you and your brother all the time. If I do not do my job, we wonât have a family nor kingdom so please do keep that in mind.â He responds. âYou were figuring things out with Zach. I am not one to interfere with that since who you choose as a suitor is your own personal decision. You can bring them to me and I can approve is disapprove of them but I refuse to control your life.â Â
âI am not asking you to control my life. I just want to know you arenât trying to get rid of me. You seem to love pointing out Iâm not a kid anymore and you are right, Iâm not but I am and will always be your kid and I am apart of your job. If you didnât want it you shouldnât of had me. I understand what has to happen, I have never complained or stopped you from doing your job. I am not asking you to babysit me, I am asking you to parent me. Be my dad not a king.â
Listening to her words, he takes them into consideration as he thinks about things. âI can do that. I am rather new at this so I am not sure how it all really works honestly but I am willing to try to work together with you so that we can keep open communication on how we handle all this.â
âI can also try to speak up more and come to you when I need your help. Asking for help is also something I have to work on but I can do that if we work together.â Hope replied as she looked at him.
âThat would be good then. Asking for help isnât something that you should be ashamed of and plus working together will help us in the long run then. I canât shorten the punishment or anything like that since I did promise your mother I would handle this.â
Hope nodded. âI understand. Kind of sucks you want to keep me away from Emmett for a month but I understand.â
âMhm.. that is true you do have Emmett. I can see what I can do about that. I will try to bring him around to see you if I can since I know he does need his mother.â He explains. â Would you want him in the morning or evenings?â
âThe evenings.â She answered. âUnless he is still sick, then itâs probably best he stay with Zach and where the doctors can get to him.â
âI think he has recovered by now. I will bring him around tomorrow then.â He responds with a smile before looking at the time. âI should get going. Your mother is preparing dinner. I can bring you some as well.â
âOkay. Thank you for talking with me, I really appreciate it.â She smiled.
âAnytime Hope. I do wish that we would spend more time together to. It has been so long since we did that.â
âOf course I would love to spend more time with you. Anytime. I miss spending time with you too. Especially going hunting, that was always fun.â
âHunting is always one of my favorite things too. We can do that once you are ungrounded.â He smiles before getting up.
âHm okay.â She laughed watching him leave. âBye dad.â
