It’s Tuesday, December 18th? 2018.
I’m with the pets, still it PJs at 1136, post two cups of lemur tea.
I’ve been in Cookie’s room, pulling a Luna and trying to catch the sun where and when I can.
I just got to the next part in Girl with a dragon tattoo.
Earlier this morning, the electricity went out while i was watching Jun and Rachel (thank you Ren). I checked a lightswitch here and there and concluded it was the whole house. I went outside-- no trucks up or down the road working on the telephone lines outside (when I went to move the chickens); Mom suggested I call UI. Checked online for their phone number, came across a map that showed the area was already reported to be out; the power was to return within in an hour.
The power’s been back for a bit while I read. Before delving into the new section, I closed the book.
I noticed how slow my breathing was. Closed my eyes in the skinny ray of direct sunlight this room has left, and vaguely wondered my heart rate as I felt every beat within a concentrated 10 seconds. I thought about how upon waking up/deciding to be done sleeping, we take a decently audible, big and deep breath in. I wondered if this increase in pressure and oxygen helped fuel/wake up the body in a simultaneous surge.
I reminisced how in this room, in nearly the same spot 3 years prior, I had been meditating. I lost that habit and a couple others that were healthy, and that I had gained from North Carolina.
The heat was turning on.
I heard the water make its way through these old pipes, lining our inner house’s walls. It popped, snapped, creaked here and there as the temperature reached whatever number my mom decided was comfortable for me (I’ll have to go lower it, I’m sure). It’s seemingly rudimentary system worked though: I felt the heat reach me soon (not all that impressive, as I’m sitting on the carpeted floor, not more than a foot away from the pipes), closed my eyes, listened to the wind was was glad to have followed Mom’s instructions to move the chickens inside.
I’m home.
