MikroTik Dual WAN on RouterOS 7 ā rebuilt from scratch in production. If you followed an old guide and hit silent failures, this is why: routing-mark= is broken in v7, FastTrack kills PCC, and missing dst-address-type=!local locks you out of your own router. Full config, real mistakes, SD card logging, and automatic DHCP gateway renewal. Link in bio. #mikrotik #homelab #networking #routeros
Building JARVIS: Installing Our OS
So letās see here, last time we talked about JARVIS was way back inā¦. *checks notes* September of 2024. Huh. Weird. Definitely wasnāt expecting to let this go for that long, but as discussed in my post about our kitchen remodel, here we are. So where was I? Right. So this is all fairly straightforward stuff, andā¦

So I set up a little modded Minecraft server for myself so that I could do all sorts of fun automation...and maybe see if I can recreate that computercraft/remote presence post from a while back. And well, whilst it did work - I think I might've maxed out my poor homeserver
The before:
...and the after

Yesterday I ran an Ethernet cable down a stack into the living room to connect to the hub, now I have a 2.4Ghz router upstairs specifically because I couldn't get an air purifier to connect to the 5GHz hub but it still took a while to fix and once I did, I started wondering if this was at all necessary. I was getting a frequency error message but this continued even when I forced the hub itself onto 2.4GHz and even when I tried using the ancient 2.4GHz router. Eventually it seemed like the issue was more poor app design and needing to erase the device from my Bluetooth history.
Now I still have this upstairs router but the speeds are much slower (not that it matters). This is likely a result of not being well configured to work with the hub, after I reset everything on it when hours of work to turn it into a wireless bridge utterly failed to produce results.

Evolving Project Ideas for the Modern Era
My Home Network: An Evolution There was a time when my home network consisted of nearly 100 machinesā an eclectic mix of old and new, acquired from Boeing, state agencies, and wherever else I could lay my hands on computers. Those days, though not ancient history, seem like a different lifetime compared to the smart, interconnected world we live in now. The Leap in Technology In the pastā¦
The unplugged home: Reclaiming your network from unnecessary IoT connections
In the modern smart home, a quiet revolution is brewing. Itās a pushback against the default assumption that every appliance, from your refrigerator to your furnace, requires a constant, unmonitored connection to the internet. The sentiment echoed in a popular TikTok transcript, āThis shouldnāt have access to the internet⦠my AC doesnāt need to browse the web as wellā, is not just a paranoidā¦
