canon divergence #2 : [ #1 was miss starling being louisiana born & raised thank u ] in the basement of gumb’s residence, gumb & clarice fired two shots each. his first skirted by clarice’s cheek & the second led to her being disarmed. her first caught him in what would have been a nonfatal wound otherwise, just missing his lungs & her second went astray. her firearm slid into the pit where catherine martin was being held. disorientated & in fight or flight, clarice rushed across the basement. grasping through the dark for a weapon --- she collected a steam iron gumb had been using in the workshop by it’s handle & managed to clip a weakened gumb’s face. in a moment of adrenaline [ fear for her life & catherine’s, rage for women’s lives taken & the overarching disregard of herself & the victims’ autonomy throughout her timeline in silence, desperation, pure unhinged feral feminine regaining of power ] clarice proceeded to unrestrainedly beat gumb with the iron. [ official autopsy report lists at least 20 strikes. ] he died in the basement before an ambulance & support arrived. he was unrecognisable. this divergence derives from conversations with @hlekter.
