Regulus doesnât look very surprised when the neck of the empty firewhiskey bottle points to him.
In fact he seems more amused than anything else, meanwhile James is contemplating his likelihood of dropping dead on the spot just at the thought of that cupboard door closing on them.
âEw - ew - no spin again.â Jamesâ best friend retches. âI am not locking my best friend and my brother in a broom cupboard togetherânot again. I swear every time we play it always lands on you two.â He groans, still oblivious, as the rest of the circle snicker behind their hands and half empty goblets.
âThose are the rules Sirius.â Regulus points out, his eyes not leaving Jamesâ across the circle. âWouldnât want us cheating, would you?â He teases.
âYeah Pads, rules are important.â James chokes, just as Reg pushes to his feet and crosses the room.
âRight, the boy who enchanted the portraits to sing every time he exits a classroom cares about rules.â Sirius scoffs.
James is about to stutter a reply when Regulusâ hand closes on the fabric of his jumper and wrenches him to his feet, dragging him along to the nearby broom cupboard where they play 7 minutes in heaven at every gryffindor party.
âRelax brother, youâll get him back in one piece.â Regulus sings as he shoves James inside and slams the door, locking it himself.
âAw but I like it when you try to rip me apart.â James grins, leaning back against the opposite wall.
Reg rolls those pretty blue eyes and dives forward, locking his fingers behind Jamesâ neck. âShut up James.â

Late one night atop the Astronomy Tower, Fred finally works up the courage to confess what's been building for far too long. You've always known - how could you not? But nothing compares to hearing it from his lips, under the stars, when the teasing fades and the truth comes out. With a kiss that lingers and a heat that rises, it turns out some confessions are worth waiting for.
756 words
The stars shimmer above the castle, casting a silver glow across the tower as the breeze rustles your cloak. The Astronomy Tower is quiet - just you, Fred, and the quiet hum of something unspoken hanging in the air.
Fred shifts beside you, clearly out of his element. He's fidgeting. Nervous. So very unlike him.
"Right, so - this isn't exactly how I planned this," he starts, his voice uncharacteristically unsure.
You smirk, glancing sideways. "What, did you plan to kidnap me or something? Hate to break it to you, Weasley, but I'm not worth a whole lot and my family's not exactly sitting on piles of galleons."
He huffs a laugh, grateful for the levity. "Oh, don't flatter yourself, love. If I were kidnapping you, I'd have done it in style. Bit of broomstick theatrics, maybe a few dungbombs for distraction."
The laugh fades, replaced by something more serious. He rubs the back of his neck, glancing down before meeting your eyes again. "No. What I meant was... I've been trying to say something for a while. And this - under the stars, just us - felt like the right moment."
He breathes out hard. "Merlin, I'm absolute rubbish at this."
Your smile softens. "Fred, you're scaring me. Is everything okay?"
He looks at you then, really looks. "What? No - yes. Sort of? Bloody hell." His voice drops. "I like you. A lot. More than I probably should. And not in a 'you're fun to mess with' kind of way. More like 'you've been stuck in my head for months and it's driving me absolutely mad.'"
You chuckle. "That's your grand confession? No flowers, no chocolates, no passionate kiss? I expected more from you, Weasley. Especially since you've been trash at hiding it."
His mouth opens, then closes, realization flickering in his eyes. "Oi! Trash at hiding it? I'll have you know I was being subtle -"
"Sure," you say, voice thick with amusement.
He groans. "You little menace."
And then he steps forward, close enough that you feel the warmth of him despite the cold night air. One hand curls around your waist; the other gently tucks a strand of hair behind your ear.
"If it's a proper confession you want, then here it is: I'm mad about you. Completely, hopelessly mad. And if I had half a brain, I'd have said it ages ago. Instead, I spent my time threatening every bloke in this castle to stay the hell away from you."
His thumb grazes your cheek. "So? Chocolates and flowers aside... did I finally meet your expectations?"
You grin. "I'll forgive you this time, Weasley." You lean in and brush your lips softly against his.
Fred exhales a shaky breath, his grin melting into something softer. "Oh, you will, will you? How generous of you."
He leans in again, slower now, pressing another kiss to your lips. It lingers this time. "That should hold you over until I get my hands on some Honeydukes' finest."
"I don't know, Weasley," you tease. "I might need a little more to hold me over."
He raises a brow, that trademark grin flickering back. "More, you say? Can't have you going hungry now, can I?"
He kisses you again, deeper this time, his hands warm against your back as he pulls you close. The rest of the world melts away - there's only Fred, only the kiss, only the stars forgotten above.
"Better?" he breathes against your lips.
"Better," you whisper, leaning into his warmth.
"Good," he murmurs, brushing his nose against yours. "Because I plan on making sure you're never hungry again - in every sense of the word."
You laugh, resting your forehead against his. "I don't know. I was thinking we could just stare at the stars. Y'know, too entranced to pay attention to one another."
He barks a laugh. "Stare at the stars, huh? I mean, I could... but I've got something a hell of a lot more distracting right in front of me."
He leans in. "How about a compromise? Stars later - after I make you thoroughly forget they even exist."
You kiss him again, this time hungry, your fingers threading into his hair. He groans softly into your mouth, pulling you tighter against him.
"Merlin," he mutters, breath ragged, "you're dangerous."
You break the kiss long enough to murmur, "To hell with the stars, Weasley."
Fred's grin grows wicked. "That's the spirit."
And under the glittering sky, wrapping in his arms and something far warmer than starlight, you finally stop pretending you hadn't wanted this all along.

~accidental legimency~
ââ
âWhy is he so pretty? Nobody should be that pretty.â
Those are the first words Regulus Black hears when he walks into the library. When Barty hexed him with temporary legimency - where he can only hear thoughts about himself - heâd expected it to be odd, and probably a little insulting in some cases, but he never expected this.
He tries to ignore it, and goes to the shelves lined with potions books, but that voice comes through again.
âHis hair looks so good today, I wish heâd let me touch it. His hair is probably so soft.â
Regulus stares straight ahead, forcing his eyes to stay on the shelves and not try to pick out which of these students seems so enticed by his hair and face. He recognises the voice, vaguely, but not enough to know who exactly it is thinking these things.
He shudders, picks out the book he needs and darting to a nearby seat. He looks through his bag and starts digging for his quill - only to realise that in the chaos of that morning, he must have left his slytherin dorm with Bartyâs satchel instead of his own. So instead of quills, ink, books or literally any normal thing - Regulus instead finds a pair of terrifying looking scissors, a lock of blonde hair that looks suspiciously like Evan Rosierâs, and a glass jar filled withâŚsnake skin - he thinks.
Regulus grimaces, and drops the jar back into the bag, before raking a hand through his hair and trying to decide which of his classmates he should ask for a pen from. Then he hears that voice again.
âOh he doesnât have his quill - that's weird, Regulus is usually so organised.â
He resists the urge to out loud shout âI am organised - Iâm just best friends with a chaos demonâ when the voice continues.
âI have a spare quill, maybe I should- yes-yes I will. Thatâs a good enough excuse to talk to him. Okay - here I go.â
Regulusâ eyes widen, realising what is about to happen and holding his breath for this voice to become a face and body and name.
Someone taps his shoulder, and he turns around fast enough to almost fall off his chair.
âHey Reg, I saw you didnât have a quill.â He hears - in that voice.
He sees the outstretched quill first, then follows it to the exposed muscled forearm and the shirt rolled up to his elbows. He keeps going and finds himself staring right at the face of the school's quidditch star, his brother's best friend, and the boy Regulus has been sort of obsessed with since his first year when he first met the boy.
He gapes at James Potter, waiting for this all to be revealed as some elaborate, horrible joke.
âOh Godric, why is he staring like that? Do I have something on my face? He must think Iâm so weird. Fucking damnit James.â
Regulus hears, and actually startles back. Holy shit. This is James - James thinks he's pretty, and wants to stroke his hair and talk to him.
âSorry, I thought you needed a quill- Iâll um- see ya round Reggie.â James starts to ramble, all flustered and adorable, and begins to retreat back to his seat.
Regulus reaches out and takes him by the wrist, pulling him closer.
âWhat is he- oh.â James sighs both inwardly and outwardly, as Regulus lifts his hand and places it on top of his head, into his nest of curls.
He smiles, sheepishly. âI think youâre pretty too.â
James turns bright red for a moment, then grins and sinks down into the seat next to him, and keeps brushing his fingers through Regulusâ hair as the boy quietly studies.
