If there was ever an icon of railroading, it was the J1e Hudson.
To me, nothing will ever top the look, the lines and the aura of the Hudson. The New York Central and ALCo cooked so hard they broke the dining plate with the Hudson. The Milwaukee Road might've drawn up the plans first, but the NYC beat them to an actual working model. If you ever told me about what train I liked the most, the Hudson (specifically 5344) will be the first thing to pop into my head.
Shown above is my Broadway Limited Imports 5344. This is an older Quantum era model (No. 001) with horrid speakers and somewhat sub-par audio, but I love it because it sounds like 2000s era Lionel Railsounds (Also having grown up with the I Love Toy Trains series, the Hudson still further spoke to me there). I painted the pilot wheels black since they were unpainted and re-adhered the broken marker lights. In time, I plan to paint the outer drive wheel rims black to match.

Back in the early 70's, before I got into the world of Texas Instruments computers, as many of you know I was heavily involved in the HO model railroad hobby, with the whole basement of my parents house covered in trains across a number of 4x8 tables.
My original set was donated to a museum when we moved to Toronto, but now that I am back in Canada and have restarted my love for Texas Instruments computers, I decided to see if I could squeeze in a little train set as well, and if some of my leftover pieces from storage could still be working.
It's like being a young Xmas kid, all over again seeing the Canadian Pacific Diesel Freight rolling along the tracks once more after 50 years.
The model railroad scene is where I first learned soldering, and about switches, resistors, caps, etc. and I even built my first simple computer to help me control the 7 trains I had running on the same tracks, and that was before the days of DCC and all the new fancy stuff you have now, in the HO hobbyist world.
Of course I don't have much space now, here at the condo to have a really good complex train set, but I am going to try my best in designing a good and interesting layout on the 40x80 table which I do have.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on what I can setup or design that would be great, and if anyone locally has extra HO scale pieces or parts that they don't need and want to donate, contact me. Thanks!
