Deep in an industrial landscape of steel over canals and high-rise office buildings dotted with residential projects, the Tokyo Bay waterfront is a jumble of new and old. Just across a bridge in a weathered old public housing block, her home since birth, she lives with her parents and sister. Open the cat-clawed sliding door, here's her own private room, her little universe where she surrounds herself with her beloved h.NAOTO clothes and Hide posters and "Mari-man" CDs (that's Marilyn Manson to you). She first encountered h.NAOTO just before graduating high school. Sure, she'd often worn black before, but from her very first impression - "Unbelievable, the exact designs I'd been looking for!" - she began frequenting the shop right away. Then, after entering vocational school, an inspired thought told her, "Well, I was going into fashion anyway…" so she dropped out and decided to go to work for h.NAOTO. Now three years later, she's gainfully employed at H, a "black shop" in the backstreets of Harajuku, where she enjoys meeting people of all different backgrounds and ages who yet share the same sensibility. From what was a one-line brand when she first discovered it, h.NAOTO" has the added attraction of always evolving," now branching out into decorator items such as picture frames, curtains and cushions, with many other new lines in the works, "It's like we're growing up together", is her considered observation. And just for your information, besides Hide and "Mariman", the shelf under the stereo player features a consistent taste in CDs: Pierrot, Sex Pistols, Shiina Ringo, Linkin Park. But now always having to man the shop on weekends, her concert-going forays are limited to mid-week daytrips.
