#assassin's creed rogue #ac rogue #shay patrick cormac #george monro (acrg)#HMS Cornro #and now back to our regular programming #one thing I really like about this canoe is the mood #Shay's life hasn't exactly been the most idyllic #and he most definitely had never known peace since the Lisbon earthquake #but around the Colonel he's just always so...calm??#it's nice to see him kind of settle down and not be bristling all the time #and the way he feels that he has a chance at atoning for what he did while working with the Colonel on improving New York is just oof 💯#and while the game never really got into the Colonel's side of the story #I have a long HC train about how he was also struggling with a lot of problems when he found Shay bcs well #assuming Finnegan Jr. (his student/assistant/comrade/heir to his legacy...) was killed by Assassins #he's probably got a lot of grieving going on at the time too #(and that's before we talk about guilt and stuff...)#(bcs guess who had to face the boy's parents to report that their son died while under his command)#and he's probably more in the mood to really wipe every Assassin off the continent at the time #including the ex-Ass he found if he proves to be uncooperative #bcs it sounded like that was the only way to do right by Finn Jr.#but as time goes by and he sees just how hardcore Shay is about doing good for the world like he needs it to breathe #the Colonel starts wondering if maybe letting the ex-Ass live instead is the way to do right by his dead protege #with the two looking more and more like each other every day #he'd probably start having Issues™ about executing Shay because well #if he'd kill a good man just because he was on the wrong side of the fence #that would make him no better than Finnegan Jr.'s killers #So in coming to terms with saving Shay instead of condemning him like some of his colleagues would've def wanted him to #I like to think the Colonel managed to also find some peace in dealing with the aftermath of what happened to Finn Jr.#as cheesy as it might be I like the idea that they found a bit of salvation in each other

#assassin's creed rogue #shay patrick cormac #george monro (acrg)#HMS Cornro #well #happy death anniversary Colonel #terribly busy last month and I didn't know if I'd make it in time this year but here we are 😂#back with more #LILIES #idk about other people but #for me there's no other flower that fits him so well #I remember the days when I still only barely registered that he was there in my first playthrough #but even when couldn't remember his face well enough to describe it to save my life #I remember full well how it felt when he was around #utterly calming #for some reason I felt like he's always lightly smiling whenever he's there #(imagine my surprise then to discover that his face is pretty much just... >•_•< most of the time)#(he smiled like ONCE)#(when Shay offered to look into Franklin's gases and he said thanks)#(other than that it's just that usual serene face)#now I know the Colonel's got the potential of being the most devious guy around if you write him that way #but I can't shake the feeling that whatever's inside is just #white as snow #🤔

#assassin's creed rogue #shay patrick cormac #george monro (acrg)#HMS Cornro #so I got emotional about the Colonel's ring and sash and made this #Monro may have been ”guiding” Shay #(or ”manipulating” him though it's all the same thing in the end)#since they first met but #I do think that at the verge of his own death #there was no time for secret nudging or ulterior motives #and him passing his own ring to Shay was #just his way of telling Shay to carry on with that dream of a better world they've both come to share #when he knew he had neither the time nor the strength to actually say all he wanted to say at that point #and there's something really raw about that #it's probably the one time he's 100% honest with what he's doing #(the other time being when he said that he cared obviously)#which coming from someone whose every word I've needed to guess the veracity of every time #really does stick out #not that I'm too bothered by the ”manipulativeness” bcs that's just the Templar equivalent of the Basic Assassin Skill™ that is shanking #but the little scenes and such where you get to see glimpses of the good stuff lying underneath it all is just 0(:3 )~
