So since Frey's already more or less comfortable in her gender identity and her family already understands and complies with what she asks for, are you going to actually state in canon that she's intersex or are you going to let it be a part of who she is without saying it out loud (aside from on your blog lol). I guess that goes the same for all your LGBT characters.
I dislike representation that requires a viewer/reader to go search for answers outside of the material itself because the clues in it were either too vague or non-existent, which is why I myself do my best to avoid this. Sometimes I cannot use exact terms because they donât fit the setting, but then IÂ rely on heavy clues/foreshadowing. But my main goal is always to make things like this seem as natural as possible by working them into dialog, action and visual hints. Â So even if I might not be able to use the word itself, it will be made clear in an appropriate way that Frey is indeed intersex (not in the pilot though). I will also clearly underline other LGBT+ character traits for the main cast. My gay babies need to shine! Heck, in the pilot it will be made 100% obvious through dialog that Isaia is into the ladies, and when referring to Terrenâs potential flings the word âpeopleâ will be used instead of âwomenâ. ;3
But more on Frey: Freyâs gender identity is not a plot point, but rather a part of her character the same way her poor eyesight or sassiness is. So even if she will not go on a huge journey to âfind herselfâ, she will still react when she later meets people who are like her (*cough* ship crew *cough*), and it will have a big impact on her as a person.Â
