The hakujoudai and kokujoudai are "hitodama". Hitodama are believed to be the souls of people who have passed away, and ghosts are often drawn accompanied by hitodama in art. So whether the hitodama are mere decorations or something more remains to be seen. (The twins have been shown having conversations with them, so that could support the theory they are individual human souls...)

But you're asking about the colors! Well, hitodama are also considered to be balls of flame, like will o' wisps. Fire can be blue and red. Therefore it's possible Aida chose the colors green and red because they're made of fire. (And green is often lumped in with blue in the Japanese language...)

This is all to say I don't actually know for certain why they have red and green accents! You'd think they'd make the "blue" one a little more blue if it's meant to represent blue fire... oh well.

I’ve wanted to make a post about Tsukasa’s hitodama.

Hitodama are human souls. So I wonder if Kokujoudai and Hakujoudai are just Tsukasa and Hanako’s souls?

Kokujoudai seems to fret a little bit much, don’t they? Nervous little things.

Tsukasa was probably feeling stressed in this chapter, since he didn’t know how to take care of baby Nene.

He even walked away to sing to himself to calm down.

I love Tsu’s character. There is still so much we don’t know about him.
