NEW MAP: Europe 310: Maximian’s Last Stand (July 310) https://buff.ly/2TMJFoo Maximinus Daza refused to accept the rulings at Carnuntum and demanded to be made an Augustus. Reluctantly, Galerius backed down, initially acknowledging Maximinus and Constantine as ‘Sons of Augusti’ then, after Maximinus threatened to rebel, recognizing them both as full Augusti in 310. That year Constantine faced his own problems when his father-in-law Maximian emerged from retirement in Viennensis and proclaimed himself emperor again. NEW MAP: Europe 275: Assassination of Aurelian (September 275) https://buff.ly/3rq8iBQ Aurelian’s victory in Gaul restored unity to the Roman Empire, a feat the Senate acknowledged by granting him the title Restitutor Orbis (“Restorer of the World”). The emperor then set his sights on Persia only to be assassinated by some of his staff in September 275. His sudden death shocked the army, who turned to the Senate to select a new emperor.
