Yeah, SJMās fae are just dudes. Appearance wise, theyāre basic generic elves, but their culture and the way they act, it might as well be an urban fantasy because theyāre just really beautiful eternally youthful but kinda normal people. The only weird is the lesser fae but theyāre so not present in the story that itās a moot point. Itās very easy to imagine Lucien and Eris sitting at cafes with a book, sipping a latte with a smokehounds lying at Erisās feet. Tamlin feels like the most abnormal because he likes being in his Beast form. The fantasy feel is very dependent on the reader to have an expansive imagination to fill in gaps. Marriage/mating seems just like normal human marriage/arrange marriage. High Fae eat normal food, no weird dishes like toad eye stew or something. The Inner Circle is going to basically what sounds like nightclub that double as a gambling hall, and possibly a brothel from things characters have said. Taboos and stuff about sex seem very human since after book 1, no one truly talks about Calanmai again. In fact, the more fae-like things in Spring are considered bad and lame in the narrative while the Night Court sometimes gives modern city with Feyre dressing like a 2010s Pinterest Starbucks girl. And honestly, I feel like because the fae feel so human, the comparisons to real life people and conflicts feel more jarring and uncomfortable. š¤ Honestly, SJM should have gotten more weird with the fae and maybe did thing opposite of human or something cause dropping certain fae traits like the no lying or iron weakness or other things to make them feel more fae feels so boring.
