To answer your question, it actually came from some of my irl friends. They were romantically re-binge watching the gotg volumes like ya do... and when they got to vol3 one of them thought that there was a lot of similarities between the collector and the high douchebag. It sort of spiraled from there before they brought it up with me a bit later. I thought it made way too much sense to ignore and decided to bring it here for the same reason you asked me about it.
