it's got possibly my favourite detail on any high cross ever. for the scene of Jesus getting arrested by the Romans they depicted Jesus as a wee monk and the Romans are vikings. (also the kitties on the bottom)

High cross at Kells, Co Meath. Dating from the 9th century, it is covered in ornamentation and carvings of Biblical scenes. An inscription on the base reads: PATRICII ET COLUMBE CR (cross of Patrick and Columba).

Almshouse & High Cross by Richard Walker Via Flickr: The Almshouse at Sherborne in Dorset has provided shelter and care for the people of Sherborne for over 500 years. It was built in the 15th Century for β12 poor men and 4 poor womenβ and is now home to 18 elderly residents. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, it was founded in 1437. Extended and restored, it is one of Dorsetβs oldest surviving almshouse and is still in use today serving its original purpose of providing housing to 18 elderly residents of the town. It is run by trustees elected from local citizens. It was built between 1440 and 1442.
