#hidden fences

Well, that’s the reason I nearly missed out on Channel 4′s WE ARE LADY PARTS, now available in the U.S. on Peacock.

How so? Because it was being talked about the same time as the teen rock group The Linda Lindas garnered attention and I assumed WE ARE LADY PARTS was a series about a teen rock band.

Non. This is the cast of WE ARE LADY PARTS, a audacious, brash, funny and enlivening comedy about the professional and, sometimes romantic, trials and triumphs of five Muslim punk punkers. 

Created,written and directed by Nida Manzoor (DIXI, ENTERPRICE) who retooled her award winning  2018 Comedy Blap “LADY PARTS”, the series follows band leader  Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey, “ Royal Shakespeare Company: The Tempest”) and bandmates  Ayesha (played by Juliette Motamed who has music career as Azadi.mp3), Bisma (Faith Omole, Shakespeare’s Globe: A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and manager Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse, “Bulletproof” as they decide their sound - and chances at winning entry to a competition - would be improved by a lead guitarist. 

Enter the unassuming Amina (Anjana Vasan, Mogul Mowgli), a part-time music teacher who is on the career path in science and on a quest of marriage.  Quickly, realizing Amina has an interest in Ayesha’s brother Ahsan (Zaqi Ismail, Britannia), Saira lures in Amina who begins living a double life as fledgling guitarist and dutiful daughter and friend. 

Gabrielle Union just called out Michael Keaton’s complete non-apology for the “Hidden Fences” flub at the Golden Globes

Gabrielle Union isn't about to sit down and let Hollywood's elite disrespect Black excellence. The star delivered an important message during her Tuesday appearance on The View, calling out Michael Keaton for what she characterized as a "non-apology" after he lumped Black-cast films Hidden Figures and Fences together into one movie.

Moonlight- A movie about a black gay man growing up in a poor Florida neighborhood.

Hidden Figures- A movie about three black women who rose through misogynoir from white men, white women and black men to place a man in space.

Fences-  I mean...come on. Denzel Washington AND Viola Davis? Enough said. 

And all anyone wants to talk about is La La Land. 

People at the Golden Globes spelled John Legend’s name wrong and the movie Hidden Figures was called Hidden Fences twice. (Refer to this post.)
