Today we celebrate the contributions of James Ivy Richardson II, professionally known as J.Ivy (@j_ivy), a Grammy Award Winning Artist spoken word artist and author from Chicago, Illinois. Ivy discovered his affinity for poetry during a routine high school assignment in which his English teacher demanded he share his gift on stage. Reluctant, Ivy performed for his peers and received a standing ovation which was a life changing moment. During his college years he became known as “The Poet”. He became the first African-American poet to represent Chicago on Russell Simmons HBO Def Poetry in which he received a standing ovation. Soon after, Kanye West asked him to spit a verse on his song “Never Let Me Down” on his debut album, “The College Dropout”. His verse is considered to be one of Hip-Hop’s most memorable poetic verses. As a versatile artist, J. Ivy has collaborated with the likes of RZA, Sonia Sanchez, Jessica Care Moore, The Roots, and many more. He has received numerous prestigious awards for his works, been featured in renowned media outlets, and performed globally. J. Ivy released two books, “HERE I AM: Then & Now” and his new book, “Dear Father: Breaking the Cycle of Pain.” Every day he encourages young people to live by his motto, “Dreams Don’t Come True, They Are True.” (Video Clip: J.
