Hesperus is the Greek mythological personification of the "evening star" (the planet Venus), representing dusk and often depicted as a youth carrying a torch. As the brother of Phosphorus (the morning star), he symbolizes the transition to night, frequently appearing in classical art and poetry as a serene, beautiful figure.
Because I keep confusing Vesper with Viper, I had to look up the meaning.
