This year we are honored to be holding space in memory of Paul Beyerl who passed away at the end of 2021. It is with great honor that we are able to share Paul’s great legacy. @aquarialist and @isaiahdearborne will be presenting at Botanica Obscura Conference 2023 Communicating with the Plant Devas: Rev. Paul Beyerl's Legacy Presented by Isaiah Dearborne and Rev. Charly McCreary The Master Book of Herbalism by Rev. Paul V. Beyerl, originally published in 1984, holds a special place on the bookshelves of herbalists and plant magic practitioners across the globe. His text The Compendium of Herbal Magick (1998) serves as a follow up text focused specifically upon magical and spiritual uses for 330 herbs and plants. Rev. Paul passed away on December 30, 2021 but his life’s work continues through those he entrusted to carry what he created forward for future generations. In this memorial presentation, Rev. Charly McCreary and Isaiah Dearborne will give an overview of Rev. Paul’s work as an author, herbalist, and Founder of the Wiccan Tradition of Lothloriȅn, The Rowan Tree Church, and the Master Herbalist Program. Rev. Charly and Isaiah will share their personal stories of connection with Rev. Paul and the Tradition of Lothloriȅn that spans over two decades, and will discuss how magical and spiritual communion with plant devas has influenced their lives. A sampling of magical herbes both baneful and benign will be included in the conversation. Excerpts from Rev. Paul’s text The Holy Books of the Devas will be shared, with the goal of honoring his legacy and inspiring others to find joy in the beauty of connecting with the divine spirits of the plant kingdom through ritual, praxis, and creative work. MISHA NELL Misha Nell is a Registered Herbalist through the American Herbalist’s Guild, intuitive artist, medicine woman, and teacher living in sunny Sarasota, Florida. An environmental enchantress, Misha believes that the natural world holds the keys to unlocking the human heart, and she deeply enjoys bringing the wonder of nature forward through a variety of eclectic educational and art-based offerings. Working as an environmental educator, botanist and herbalist for over 30 years, Misha has helped thousands of children and adults connect to nature through her diverse and creative programming, educational art work, interpretive sign design, and volunteer initiatives. Misha specializes in the weird and wonderful poisonous and venomous creatures in nature, particularly focusing on those native and endemic creatures to her home state of Florida. She weaves in her magic with a solid scientific background and a heartfelt passion for the plant and animal kingdoms, allowing for her students to experience an even deeper connection to their wild souls. Misha holds Bachelors degrees in fine arts and botany from New College and a MS in environmental education from NOVA Southeastern.
