In cradle-clothes our children where they lay,
And called mineĀ āPercy,ā hisĀ āPlantagenetā!ā

Henry Bolingbroke Lands at Ravenspur
On 30 June 1399, Henry Bolingbroke, the exiled son of John of Gaunt and future King Henry IV of England, landed at Ravenspur in Yorkshire, marking the beginning of a dramatic change in English history.
Bolingbroke returned to England after being banished by King Richard II, initially claiming he had come only to recover the lands and titles that had been taken from him after his fatherās death. However, his return quickly gained support from nobles who were dissatisfied with Richardās rule.
As Henryās forces grew, the political crisis deepened. Richard IIās weak leadership, conflicts with the nobility, and controversial decisions had created widespread opposition. Within months, Bolingbroke would seize power, forcing Richard II to abdicate and becoming King Henry IV, beginning the Lancastrian dynasty.
The landing at Ravenspur was the first step in one of the most important royal takeovers in medieval England, setting the stage for the turbulent years that followed, including the struggles of the Wars of the Roses.
Gabrielle dāEstrĆ©es: The Woman Who Nearly Became Queen of France
Few royal mistresses wielded as much influence as Gabrielle dāEstrĆ©es. As the beloved companion of King Henry IV of France, she was far more than a favorite at court. Gabrielle bore the king several children, served as one of his closest political advisers, and encouraged his conversion to Catholicismāa pivotal decision that helped bring stability to a nation torn apart by decades of religious conflict.
Henry IV openly acknowledged his devotion to Gabrielle and reportedly intended to marry her, despite the controversy such a union would have caused. She was even granted titles and honors that suggested she was being prepared for a royal future. However, those hopes ended abruptly when Gabrielle died suddenly in 1599 at just 26 years old, only months before the king's marriage plans could become reality. Her untimely death altered the course of French history and remains one of the great "what ifs" of the Bourbon monarchy.
