You used the word "mates," which Scottish people use...and basically said you're in Scotland when you said your brother, who grew up in Connecticut, came over (to Scotland, to "crash with us.") Oh let, me guess, now you're going to say you're actually American and live in Scotland...and want to sound like a native, so you use words Americans don't use, like "mates."

People in the UK use the term "hen party," Americans use "bachelorette party."

Soooo, are you Scottish, but don't sound Scottish except for the use of the words stated above? Or are you American and have decided to use words Scottish people use? Again, sooooo confusing...because your stories don't add up.
