šHair Dying with HennaĀ š
Ā So recently I had been thinking about dying my hair an other color. I had the same hair color for six years (Oh, my Hecate. Time flies.) I have been dying my hair since the first year of middle school and I have always loved red hair. By Ā time I tried different shades like burgundy, cherry red, wine red, fiery redā¦I even had red hair like Ariel!
But sadly I realized that the chemicals and my hair donāt like each other. Okay, my hair is not so damaged, but itās all thanks to the huge amount of conditioner I use for my hair.Ā
So this two reason helped me to make my mind and change my hair color (and I wanted to change the dying method also). And thatās why I finally chose henna. Back in time I used henna once for some month, but I didnāt like the result. I wanted red hair and it made my hair look brownish-blonde with a hint of red. But I decided to give a secon chance to it. But at first letās just ask the obvious question.
š Why is henna good for your hair?Ā š
excellent natural conditioner soft and shiny hair after every use
henna improves hair growth
makes your hair thick and lustrousĀ maintains balance and keeps scalp clean
There was just one little...*not so little* problem. I recently dyed my hair wine red. It faded quickly (washing my hair twice was enough to make it vivd red from the beautiful deep tone). But the chemicals donāt fade as fast as my color. But - as usually - I had a plan. You know hairdressers always say that the only thing you can use is bleach. *Psst! This is not true!Ā š* There is a recipe I used for example to get black dye out of my hair. And the most magical thing about it is that it works! Itās call vitamin-c serum.Ā
So I make my little mixture. You need just a few things for it.Ā
šVitamin-C Hair Color Removalš
If you have shorter hair use smaller amount of the ingredients and if you have longer use bigger amount.Ā Ā š
1 or 2 tbsp conditioner (optional)
1 or 2 tbsp shampooĀ (clarifying shampoo is the best but any shampoo will do)
2 or 4 tbsp vitamin-c powder (I donāt recommend vitamin-c tables for this especially chewing ones because it contains additives)
For my mixture I added some other ingredient, but the removal works without these too!
half or 1 tbsp ground cinnamonĀ
After you make the mixture you just have to put it on your hair - I usually put it ony dry hair -, leave it for 20-40 minutes and wash your hair.Ā
So this was my hair color today morning before the treatment:Ā
And it looked like this after the treatment:
Pretty amazing, isnāt it?! Itās simple, but effective. And after this you can put henna orĀ semi-permanent hair color on your hair.Ā
Here comes the fun part: letās make henna paste!Ā
š±Henna paste recipeš±
I learned my recipe from my mother who has been dying her hair with henna for ten years.Ā
1/2 cup 100% pure henna powder
1/2 cup hot water (or coffee, tea, etc.)
Wash your hair 12 hours before the hair dying
Measure out henna into a bowl (glass or plastic) about 3 times its size.
Heat water or make a strong tea/coffee brew.Ā Make a little more of them than you need in case the paste is too dry and you need more.
Add the chosen liquid to the henna powder and mix it well.Ā
Mix it until it will be smooth and creamyĀ
Put on gloves and wear a t-shirt that you donāt need anymore before you apply the paste.Ā
Once henna is covering the scalp, add more and work it through the hair, wadding the hair up to the scalp and keeping it moist. Work quickly before the henna begins to dry. (Pay attention because itās a messy work)
Put all your hair to the top of your head
Wrap plastic wrap around your hair/head and cover it well.Ā
Wrap your headĀ in a towel, terry shower turban or put on an old hat to keep your head/hair warm. It will open the hair shaft and helps the hair hold more color.
Leave it on your hair from 2-3 hour to 6 hour.Ā
Rinse hair out with warm waterĀ butĀ DO NOT WASH THE HAIR! The henna will strip all hair products from the hair and clean it fully.
After this you can use your conditional.Ā
wait a minimum of 48 hours before washing hair with shampoo or applying products.
And this is how my hair looks right now after applying henna:Ā
