Vine and Zagan entered a large room with a massive round table made of dark wood. Four chairs sat around the table with three clustered together and a fourth far from the three. Paimon sat in one of the three while Baal sat in the chair apart from the others. Vine and Zagan took their seats near Paimon and waited.
“Welcome, everyone. Let the meeting begin,” Baal’s low, distorted voice announced.
“Where shall we start? Perhaps the issue with the legions?” Paimon suggested.
“I agree. Have you considered what I brought to you centuries ago?” Vine asked.
“I had. And I see there have been some improvements in Goetia behavior, but still a lack of respect gained. From Stolas especially. Though he has come out of his shell, he fails still to command respect and loyalty from his legions. However, that is not where I wanted to start. There is something else that has had my curiosity for centuries,” Baal stated.
“What would that be?” Zagan asked.
“The few children born to Goetia. How has the development of them been since I was alerted to this phenomena?” Baal asked.
“Ah! Well, from my observations, it does seem we are capable of conception much like mortals are now. Though the process is not quite as bloody and painful as mortals claim and especially not from the demon spawn. However, the incubation process does seem longer as does the growth of the child,” Paimon explained.
“How so?” Baal asked.
“Well, while they are full grown and considered adults now, it took roughly two hundred and fifteen years before they reached that age. And about another eighty-five years to reach full maturity. So, a total of about three hundred years,” Vine explained.
“But we have also noticed that they aren’t shackled like so many of us still are. They more freely explore their domains, which are mixtures of the parents’ domains. They also seem to possess more free will than us. And while they do lean more towards their parents’ functions, they do openly and freely explore other avenues,” Paimon added.
Baal’s eyes flashed with a dangerous curiosity. “Tell me about their domains. Starting with Vual and Zepar’s child.”
“Duke Ahava, like both parents, possesses seven domains. The domains that she possesses are love, sex, enchantment, revelry, beauty, justice, and comradery,” Zagan announced.
Baal hummed. “What of Gremory and Sitri’s child?”
“Prince Amadeus was born with six domains like Prince Sitri. The domains that he possesses is love, sex, beauty, beasts, order, and justice,” Vine shared.
“Fascinating. And what of the children of Furfur and Valefar?” Baal asked.
“Both Prince Umbra and Prince Noctis possess six domains compared to Duke Valefar’s seven and Earl Furfur’s five. Umbra’s domains are darkness, love, temptation, anarchy, beasts, and illusions. Noctis has darkness, justice, crime, storm, secrets, and miracles,” Paimon explained.
Baal’s eyes lit up. “Extraordinary. What other combinations could be made? What domains could we mix to make new, stronger clan members?”
“Baal, are you suggesting we force Goetia together to satisfy this curiosity?” Vine demanded.
“That could be disastrous. While the clan gets along, not many want such relationships. Don’t forget ones like Marquis Marchosias has sworn a vow of celibacy and will not engage in sex again,” Paimon admitted.
“I would not be so cruel. No. We’ll use magic to incubate the creature to avoid such friction. However, I will want parents selected that could produce powerful creatures. Just imagine what they could do. Free of the shackles of Paradise. Free to be their own creature. What could they do for the clan? What could they do to the world?” Baal rambled.
“I don’t think the others would accept that as easily,” Vine commented.
“Perhaps a rephrasing? What if after seeing and examining the creation of children of Fallen, we are inviting a chance to build and expand the clan? After all, no more Fallen have arrived since the Purge. And I’m sure there might be some Fallen that wish to create something but may not want to endure the process or company,” Zagan suggested.
“Would we be allowed to partake?” Vine asked.
Baal hummed. “Yes, but with lower ranks. Not among each other. Too many kings can also cause friction.”
“Then no higher than a Prince perhaps? We could try our luck with a duke, but there could be a chance of that child being a king just as well as a duke. Though it might be safest with nothing greater than a prince to ensure at least another duke,” Vine pointed out.
“That I can agree with,” Baal said.
“And how would you want pairs selected? And keep in mind, there are many Goetia that have established relationships that may not produce strong offspring, but may still want children,” Vine reminded.
“Why don’t we all submit a list? Vine can handle the existing couples while Zagan, Baal, and I can make our own lists of those not in relationships, but could make powerful creations,” Paimon suggested.
“I am ok with this,” Zagan said.
“As am I,” Vine agreed.
“Then it is settled,” Baal said.
“Well, on a similar topic. The Marquises are clamoring for stronger demonic spawn. Little are surviving Sabnock’s process. And even if they survive, they are less than ideal during the training process,” Paimon pointed out.
“Along with them having issues connecting with some Goetia such as Stolas, Vassago, Zepar, Gremory, Buer, Marbas, Camio, Haagenti, and Furcas. As such, these Goetia cannot effectively command. With others like Zepar and Vassago are refusing to at this point,” Vine added.
“Perhaps these children can offer yet another purpose. To command where the parents cannot,” Baal suggested.
“So long as we don’t force them. If they fall into it, then so be it. However, if they refuse and pursue other venues, we must allow it,” Zagan commented.
“Of course, but do our best to encourage it where we can,” Baal insisted.
“Naturally, though the demon spawn?” Paimon reminded.
Baal hummed. “If the regular spawn are not enough, perhaps we should create our own as the Virtuous Sins have done. I want all Goetia with a knowledge domain to begin observations on demonic specimen. Have them begin crafting a new species that will fit what we need. And, maybe, just maybe, something more.”
“More?” Vine asked.
“Have any Goetia laid with any demons?” Baal asked.
“Most have not with the exception of Zepar and his little group of heathens. At least to our knowledge,” Paimon answered.
“They are one of the few that entertain the idea. Though there are some that are curious. Though why are you thinking?” Vine asked.
“Demons are our opposites, but we are in between now. Not quite angel, not quite demon either. Evident as we must indulge in such earthly needs, but retain some sense of grace. The Seraphim once spoke of unholy unions of demons and angels that could potentially create reality-shattering spawn. I want to see if there is truth to that knowing what we do now,” Baal explained.
“It would require more research into. Demons are still a largely unexplored area for us. And there is the fact that many Goetia will not lay with a demon. I doubt many would want to create a spawn with a demon even if through magical means,” Vine pointed out.
“Let’s focus on the research part a little more and worry about the rest of that when the time comes. Who knows. Perhaps it’s not possible or there are serious roadblocks that could prevent us from exploring further,” Zagan said.
“Then there is no time to waste. I’ll gather the knowledge Goetia and hand out their tasks on your behalf,” Paimon announced.
“Excellent. Has there been any other notable developments?” Baal asked.
“From my side, I’ve convinced Prince Stolas to start up a farming community. He took to it quick and we’ve now our own fields filled with produce to feed the clan. We’ve even managed to entice other Goetia such as Amdusias, Orobas, Bifrons, and Buer. Meanwhile, Allocer, Sitri, and Furfur have started keeping beasts like Satan and his imps do,” Vine explained.
Paimon laughed. “Oh, you should have seen Satan’s face when I told him we wouldn’t need his services anymore. Granted, I may have especially rubbed it in his face since he’s tried to gouge us in recent centuries. Not as bad as Mammon, but still enough that it was getting to be too much.”
“Do not antagonize the Virtuous Sins, Paimon. We may still need them in years to come,” Baal berated.
Paimon flinched. “Of course. Forgive me.”
“Only if you seek forgiveness from Satan. On bended knee if you must,” Baal warned.
Paimon bowed his head and didn’t respond.
“Speaking of the Virtuous Sins. I’ve begun working more with Belphegor as she’s made astonishing developments in medicine and health as a whole. While I’m not fond of the more industrialization she’s leaning into, I won’t deny the benefits of working beside her,” Vine said.
“It has helped greatly in treating the Goetia with abnormalities from their creation. Didn’t you say in providing your own research, you both had discovered patterns which manifests as mental handicaps?” Zagan asked.
“To put it crudely, yes. One such example is Stolas. By sharing our research with hers from mortals and demons, we’ve noticed similar patterns he has with them like the aversion to change, frustration over changes in plans and schedules, difficulty socializing, preferring to be alone, periods of hyper focusing on subjects and activities he has a keen interest in, and perhaps noticing details many of us don’t. She’s also noted these persons interact differently with the world from those with ‘typical’ minds,” Vine explained.
Baal hummed. “Is it something we need to worry about?”
“We’re still looking into it. Personally, I believe this is all natural. We just need to recognize these behaviors and learn to adjust how we interact with those specific Goetia. Just as we have with ones like Marchosias,” Vine said.
“How is she doing?” Zagan asked.
“She’s making strides towards a recovery. Ronove is slowly helping her be comfortable with touches such as holding hands and the occasional hug. She’s slowly exposed herself to concepts of kissing and other intimacy through books mostly from Vassago’s collection, but nothing with depictions or implications of sex. She’s also taken it upon herself to wear less armor in a casual, relaxed setting since she’s acknowledged she’s used it as a safety net and needs to be less dependent on it,” Vine explained.
“To think she endured what she did. And now she’s reclaiming more of herself bit by bit. She’s truly an inspiration,” Zagan remarked.
“Aside from trauma, we’re also working on a spectrum of attraction with Asmodeus. We’ve discovered that mortals upon birth often have a set attraction to specific genders, have a way they want to express themselves, and even some not experiencing sexual nor romantic attraction. I’ve been slowly introducing these ideas to the clan to help them with discovering themselves for those that want it,” Vine explained.
“Oh? What have they discovered?” Baal asked.
“Let’s see. Phenex is aromantic, which is the lack of romantic attraction, but she doesn’t care what gender her sexual partners are, which we named as pansexual. A few others that fall into the pansexual label are Zepar, Vual, Sitri, and Gremory. Gremory also falls into a category of trans given his gender expression. He appears as a woman, but prefers male pronouns. Compare to Goetia like Phenex, Vual, Marchosias, Andras, Leraje, me, Valefar, Focalor, Dantalion, Gaap, Bifrons, Marbas, and Haagenti who have taken to being female presenting as we feel it’s how we were meant to be,” Vine explained.
Paimon groaned. “Can we move onto something else? My head is hurting with all this.”
“No. Continue,” Baal said.
“Thank you, Baal. Aside from aromantic, pansexual, and trans, there are a few other labels a few Goetia took to. Vassago, Shax, Dantalion, and Glasya identify as bisexual, which is an attraction to both genders. Then there is Ahava and Bifrons identify as lesbian, which is an attraction to only women. And then there’s Amadeus, Agares, and possibly Andrealphus that are gay, which is an attraction to only men,” Vine continued.
“Hold on. I thought Andrealphus and Phenex had been seen together?” Paimon asked.
“They have been. Andrealphus has admitted he’s not sure how he felt about that encounter. But after he and Vassago started their union, he’s admitted he finds men more favorable. Bifrons and Agares shared similar experiences to Andrealphus where they slept with the opposite gender but didn’t enjoy it as much as with their own,” Vine explained.
“Fascinating. And have there been those that lack a sexual attraction like how Phenex lacks a romantic attraction?” Baal asked.
“Yes. Andras, Valefar, Murmur, and Furfur identify as asexual, which is the lack of sexual attraction,” Vine answered.
“What? But Valefar and Furfur had children. How are they asexual?” Paimon demanded.
“Because we found just because there is a lack of attraction doesn’t mean all who fall in that category won’t engage in sex. Valefar seems to favor it while Andras, Murmur, and Furfur don’t necessarily care for it, but aren’t repulsed by it,” Vine explained.
Paimon groaned. “My head hurts.”
“Suck it up. I’m almost done. Lastly, there are those that identify as both asexual and aromantic. Those being Sabnock, myself, Orobas, Malthus, Marbas, Buer, Malphas, Camio, Ose, and Furcas,” Vine finished.
“And that last one is the lack of romantic and sexual attraction, correct?” Zagan asked.
“Yes.”
“Add me onto that list with you.”
“I had a hunch, but I didn’t want to assume.”
“Can we finally move onto a different topic? I have a migraine now,” Paimon whined.
Baal ignored Paimon. “Such fascinating developments. To think mortals could be so much like us, and us like them. Is this how we are all meant to be? Is this Her true design? Are we more alike than we ever thought?”
“There is that possibility. As you stated when we walked away from Paradise, there was more than we were being told,” Vine pointed out.
“But why hide this? Is it not a good thing we are equals? Must we rule and be absolute when it’s not our place?” Baal asked.
“Well, there is something that could get us answers. However, I ask that this stay between us and off the books,” Vine said.
A silence washed over the others. Paimon and Zagan tensed while Baal leaned forward.
“Proceed,” Baal commanded.
“I found Her,” Vine announced.
Paimon’s eyes widened and Zagan gasped. The pair exchanged glances as they looked at Baal, who was unreadable.
“Where was She?” Baal asked.
“A dimension none could reach unless you force your way as I had. I stumbled upon Her and the horrific state She’s in,” Vine said.
“How is She? How bad are things?” Zagan asked.
“It’s as we had hypothesized that She was a single entity. However, She is being torn apart. Namely due to the division of angels, demons, and mankind. And, on top of all that, it was the Sin of Mankind that started this all. When Lilith ran and tempted Eve to eat the fruit of knowledge, who gladly ate it,” Vine explained.
“What are the specifics?” Baal asked.
“Two heads. One of horrific darkness and another of purifying light. Two necks splitting into separate sets of arms as Her torso is beginning to split. She cries in agony as every second She is slowly ripped apart because of us,” Vine answered.
“We must do something then. If She is meant to be one, but is being ripped in two, we must act. Perhaps we could offer some relief,” Zagan pointed out.
“How? Even if we are a strange in between, there is still a large division. So many that have abandoned Her, worship Her, hate demons, tolerate demons, and so much more. We can’t just command everyone be on the same page. That’s what lead us all here in the first place,” Paimon reminded.
“Perhaps not that, but encouragement, as I have done. To extol both virtues and sins. Embrace both to fully know Her. However, there is still the issue of the shackles as I see Goetia interested in what I preach, but held back by invisible chains,” Vine commented.
“We need to rid ourselves of these chains. Zagan, I want you to work on developing some tool to break these invisible shackles,” Baal commanded.
“How? These chains were designed by Seraphim. They were the ones that changed us. We may have once been part of the upper choirs, but we aren’t anymore. And we’re still lesser than them as Cherubim,” Zagan reminded.
“Perhaps we can ask the Virtuous Sins for help,” Vine suggested.
“And have us in their pocket for all eternity? Pass,” Paimon said.
“If we are to liberate ourselves, we will need help,” Vine protested.
“I agree. We simply aren’t strong enough to compete with the power of a Seraph. And it was an entire council of them that committed these acts,” Zagan added.
“And even if we do things the natural way and break free on our own, who knows how long that will be. Or if we even can break free,” Vine said.
“We surely can. We’re all here, aren’t we? We wouldn’t be here if their hold was absolute,” Paimon argued.
“Unless their hold cannot be absolute. Where even the Seraphim are just as flawed as us. Which means there must be a way to shatter their holds on us forevermore,” Baal stated.
“That still leaves the question of how,” Zagan reminded.
Baal hummed. “Vine, propose this idea to Belphegor. See what you two can work out. Make a deal only if you absolutely must.”
“Understood,” Vine said.
“I have heard Amsodeus is making strides in technological advancements. Perhaps I could confer with him? Build a rapport and work towards this goal?” Zagan suggested.
“You have my blessing to proceed with that,” Baal said.
“And me?” Paimon asked.
“You are going to go to Satan, beg for forgiveness on your hands and knees, and complete whatever penance he deems necessary to make up for your transgression. Do I make myself clear?” Baal hissed.
Paimon bowed his head. “Yes.”
“Aside from seeking penance, I want you to organize the knowledge domain Goetia and hand out their tasks of researching the demons. In addition, I want an announcement made regarding the children. Zagan, could you write it up? As was described earlier as a way to expand the clan?” Baal instructed.
“I can,” Zagan said.
“Thank you. And Vine? Keep up the good work,” Baal said.
Vine bowed her head.
“Any other matters that need to be addressed?” Baal asked.
Silence.
“Good. Meeting adjourned.”
