It's really interesting how the topic-comment structure has made Reddit the 'um, actually' website while tumblr's reblog paradigm naturally creates the 'yes, and' platform.
I love that tumblr is basically the most soothing social media to me now by sheer virtue of just staying the same and not getting worse.
Less bots than other socials and the ones we get are cheap and dumb as hell, so once the new pattern appears everyone spots them a mile away.
I can actually see the posts of who I'm following in chronological order.
FYP is secondary, the algorithm sucks, and search is unreliable which means you are truly the one that curates your feed.
Blocking is fast, and meant to be used.
No giant corp in their right minds tries to advertise here so it's either really shitty ads shoved between the posts, or small artists and crafters trying to get their neat stuff seen

The algorithm being shit also means the site isn't really capable of intentionally shoving rage and terror fuel into your face meant to keep you spiraling on it for hours.
Chronological order means there's an 'end point' so I can feel like I caught up with my moots and am done for the time being.
Actually requires you to read sometimes, which means fics and longer posts that give me more satisfaction.
I know tumblr is held together by duct tape and body fluids and it's the bad neighborhood of socials but I love our crusty little dive bar. May it remain my soothing little escape.
