Iām a huge hellboy fan, probably some of my most favorite comic books/character of all time.
Ron Perlman was absolute perfection in the early 2000s films, It made me sad there was never a third one after Golden army. But he embodied everything hellboy is in my opinion, It was perfection!
I did not like The 2019 hellboy as much but I love David harbour, David is a fantastic actor. Too much cussing for the character of hellboy in my opinion. I didnāt like the way they had him look either as much but itās still cool.
And I was very skeptical about The crooked man, but I gave it a chance and after watching it, It was actually pretty good in my opinion, especially to be low budget.
The storyline was spectacular, I liked the writing. The actor did a very outstanding job playing hellboy and at first i didnāt necessarily think it was gonna look good but i watched the movie and it was really great.
Itās definitely one of my favorite comic book movies now, Give it a watch!

To everyone wondering if the new Hellboy movie is worth it :
Itās not an Oscar winner. Itās not a cinematic masterpiece. But god damn is it a good time.
The critics are entitled to their opinions but, speaking from a Hellboy fan of a long time, the movie was super fun and I highly recommended seeing it.
David WAS AMAZING IN THE ROLE. Rob will always be the original but David was absolutely captivating as Red.
It deserves the audience and money because I want a sequel dammit.
So if your on the fence about Hellboy 2019. Get off the fence and hop into Davidās Hellboy yard. Weāre having a party. We will not disappoint.
Iām a little late to this party but oh well, still a fun time. Anyways folks, first off, I shall forever call this film,Ā HELLBOY: Forever.Ā
Thatās what this film felt like to me. Felt like a batman forever just with demons and alot of blood. Iām not saying this film is bad at all. I actually had a fun time watching it.Ā
I wonāt go into too much detail, but this felt more of a dark-ish, over the top comic book world. Where del toros was, well, del toro. Serious, but excellent humor, effects, fighting, acting you name it. This one, it seems they wanted to crank it up to 11 and go nuts. I can enjoy that from time to time.Ā
The acting, like everything else was kinda campy, over the top and so on. They didnāt want to be too serious.Ā
Now that i think about it, it also reminds me of the animated hellboy films from years ago.Ā
The practical effects when they were used were good. A few stinks here and there. The CGI,oh lord. very very few good shots. this was one of the last stops for the money flow.Ā
On that note, think that is one of this films biggest faults, their budget. you can tell this was a much lower budget then the others. Maybe if they would have had more they might have done better.Ā
Hope this review helps you make a choice on the film. Not near as good as the first two but still a fun one to watch here and there.Ā
PS. I enjoy Milla Jovovich no matter what. :-)Ā
I give Hellboy: Forever, i mean Hellboy(2019) a 5/10
I know nothing about the Hellboy mythos. Somehow I missed the original Guillermo del Toro film from 2004 and its sequel, The Golden Army. Since we live in a world where any property from 15 years ago is considered ancient history, director Neil Marshall brings us the reboot starring David Harbour as the titular demon working for the good guys whoās trying to stop the forces of evil from taking over. Pretty typical stuff, but surely if theyāre rebooting the series that means they have a new take, a new direction for a character who is born of darkness and blood but has been raised to fight for the forces of good, right? Well...
This may come as a shock, but uh, nah none of that happened. Rather than a nuanced, emotionally complex origin story, we get a bloody, garish, muddled mess that not even some fun performances from Harbour and his adopted dad, Ian McShane, can salvage. Thatās not to say there arenāt some entertaining moments or engaging sequences, but overall this feels like way too much crammed into one film, and it leaves the whole thing feeling pointless and overly busy.
Some thoughts:
First thingās first, I want a title as badass asĀ āThe Queen of Bloodā so if any of my followers want to work something up for me, that would be great. Related: our main antagonist, Milla Jojovich, has not aged a god. damn. day.Ā
I want Ian McShane to narrate everything in my life. Audiobooks, GPS directions - everything.Ā
I canāt help but feel that this plan to defeat The Queen of Blood is literally the exact same as the plan to defeat The Judge in Buffy. They say there are no new stories under the sun, but cāmon guys.
I know itās for the comedy, but Hellboy...why would you not operate the phone with your normal sized hand, my dude.
One of the only highlights is the chemistry between Ian McShane and David Harbour. To be fair, though, I think Ian McShane could probably have great chemistry with a phone book.
I have never seen the Guillermo del Toro films, but I do know that his monster designs are basically the highest of A-plusses. So the standards are definitely high, but I thought the monster designs here were suitably grotesque and actually scary. At one point, thereās a giant fire vagina and a bunch of hell creatures all hanging out together. Itās great.Ā
Like can we talk about Baba Yaga? Because Baba Yaga is the scariest thing I have EVER SEEN. And you might say ok, well Iāve seen monsters that look kind of like her before (Iām thinking Der Kindestod from Buffy and now Iām wondering if the writers owe Joss Whedon some kind of royalties or something). But have you ever seen a monster like her that also has boobs made out of bones? I think not.
Did...did Nazis have their own special 3D glasses?
Are we supposed to know who this Lobster guy is? It seems like heās significant, but the movie explains nothing about him really.Ā
So thereās a warthog man who kills indiscriminately but still wears a loincloth...and can eat....peopleās...voices. This is right around where the movie loses me.
Itās also really bloody. Just like...super bloody. Like Kill Bill Vol. 1 bloody but without the fun fantastical revenge plot. Some of the gore is fun, like the epic fight scene with the giants, but after awhile it stars to feel less fun and campy and moreĀ āI need a fucking shower.ā
Daniel Dae Kim is just so goddamn hot.
I did greatly enjoy the soundtrack.
Some gems - David Harbourās yelling confrontation about being used as a weapon to kill monsters
And the biggest problem is that so much is happening? Inexplicably? Well, they explain it...but it all is just SO MUCH. It feels like a Stefon bit - thereās a guy with a deer head as a hat. Psychics can vomit up ghosts so they can talk to people. EXCALIBUR IS THERE.Ā
So the implication here is that Arthur, a Briton king who died in the 5th century, is buried beneath St. Paulās Cathedral.
Did I Cry? There may have been a very mild tearing up during Ian McShaneās big dad speech, but I attribute that more to Ian McShaneās general Dadness than to any emotional heft from the script itself.
Basically everything going on here is a big overstuffed shitpile with some glimmers of real interesting gems peeking through. All the interpersonal interactions between Hellboy and his father are really excellent, and the cast is giving it their all with what they have. I think if this had focused on being either an origin story or a big mythology/destiny extravaganza, it could have been much stronger, but as it is, youāre probably better off sticking to the del Toro originals.Ā

David Harbour Meeting Fans and Signing Autographs, one guy gave him a Jeffrey Dean Morgan Negan photo, David was nyce enough to tell him "That's not me." xD

It was certainly not as bad as critics are saying however it was still not good. I think the biggest issue with this movie was the editing and the fact that it felt like they were trying to cram many different stories. I also think it was a weird choice to have gone with "The wild hunt" and bits of "The storm and fury" as the first stories for this reboot. That would be like starting a new Batman reboot with "R.I.P." or "Knightfall". Its just something that should be saved for later films.
David Harbor seems a bit uncomfortable as Hellboy with the makeup on. It just seems off, whereas Perlman looked and embraced the aesthetic of the character. There was one funny scene that I liked. Another thing that felt weird was the way the movie was shot. The camera angles/lenses made the movie look like a movie you'd see as an exclusive on Syfy. Also while I like the usage of metal I felt it was awkward in some places.
Looking at the behind the scenes drama between the director, producsr and Harbor I can see why the movie turned out this way. Overall this movie is something for hardcore fans of Hellboy to enjoy. Everyone else should just skip on this or wait for it on streaming services.
