The context of the dialogue in this scene isn’t even that angsty but this panel certainly makes it seem that way. Like this illustration makes the line about “living for a long time” so incredibly loaded considering Hei Xiazi is functionally immortal and Xie Yuchen isn’t 😭

He knows his man all too well.

That was actually such a sweet detail to include. I really like that NPSS included this.

I’m just imagining Xie Yuchen levelling Hei Xiazi with a particular gaze that Liu Yuhan had in Ultimate Note lmao.

I love that Hei Xiazi is offended by the food quality on Xie Yuchen’s behalf (a nice detail considering how picky he is in Ultimate Note) and then Xie Yuchen hears that Hei Xiazi found the toy and - even if it’s maybe sarcastic - he just immediately offers to buy it for him. I love their banter.

Yeah this bit about eternal love I’m sure isn’t relevant to Heihua at all.

Oh, what’s that about lovers of a similar age not needing to worry but lovers who know they can’t be together for very long are willing to take risks. Gee, I wonder if that has ANY CONNECTION TO THE EVENTS OF REUNION: MYSTERY OF THE ABYSS.
