It is really sad! A lot of people think Murphy is manipulating Abby but rather I agree with you that instead Murphy just has such difficulty processing people being genuinely kind to him that he considers it as they’re “working on/with” him instead. My poor trash son deserves all of the love

YES THIS. I think it’s less about him being Manipulative Trash and more about him feeling like it has to be that or he wouldn’t understand her being nice or saying she worried about him when he was gone. He has completely rejected the idea that Abby sees actual goodness in him.

yes exactly, he just can’t understand that. someone needs to slowly teach that boy that not everything in the world is give and take, and he doesn’t always need to take as much as he can and give as little as he can, in order to survive and be okay. but then again that is one of the hardest mentalities to ever get out of. but i do hope that he can realise that it is possible for someone to just be nice to him without an alterior motive

I just keep coming back to that time he side-eyed Jaha for GIVING HIM A FREAKING PIECE OF CANDY like ‘clearly you want something in return’ and he was actually sort of right about that. :( He’s made some big strides on the darker side of give-and-take, with the revenge killing and all -- I think he’s moved past that need to return harm with harm. But that sense of karmic balance and cost-vs-benefit still underlies a lot of how he deals with people.

I agree with all of you (yes, I read the others opinions). Murphy is very complex but he doesn’t forget what the others did to him so it’s very hard for him to trust a person and to see this person genuily cares for him. Don’t forget what he said in the 2x10, if someone gives you something, he waits something in return. I love this character for this duality because he cares so much for the people but also he knows how people are. He only trusts Emori because she is just like him. BUT he will learn that people can genuily can for him. + remember,he really believed Raven forgave him and she wanted to give him to the grounders. I think he learnt he can trust his people, at least concerning emori and him. He trusts Bellamy but it was a long process :s
