THE BEST NEW RELEASES FROM OCTOBER
wulfs - september headache
the thought of starting new in september is captured well by the wulfs in their follow up to 'moving out', the song really reflects what its like to be going to a university to start fresh. all of this has been telegraphed straight into a 'funkilicious' tune featuring some awesome riffs and a dead catchy baseline. its dreamy guitar echos is what its like to wake up after a night of booze and hard drugs and with vocals such as 'my head really hurts man' its clear they, like many have gone through a few crazy nights like this in their first month at uni. having only worked together for around five months, and with many more songs under their belt, their release of âseptember headache' could be the start of a long line of promising releases!Â
heavy waves - fool for you
slacker-pop three-piece heavy waves are back with new song 'fool for you', which like they're other tunes, is ace! big, eerie guitar and bass riffs really give this song an almost dark feel with a hint of love, something to listen to if you've fallen for someone. they're fuzzy, garage sound is sprucing up the indie music scene as its individual to them and there is'nt anything similar. coming from birmingham plays a huge part in this bands life and its almost as if they adsorb every inch of inspiration from all the bands also hailing from 'b-town'. after supporting the likes of peace, splashh and superfood, its seems like its their moment to step into the limelight and make they're stand.Â
thud - lime
it may be the start of winter but not for this hong kong outfit as summery vibes can still be reminisced in their freshest singe 'thud'. being feed bands such as my bloody valentine and slowdive as young ones has clearly reflected onto their record, as the echoey vocals sounds much like ones heard by many shoegaze bands songs from the 90's. those days on the beach have been apprehended well and have been transformed into the dizziness of piercing guitars and dreamy lyrics. as im a fan of shoegaze they'll definitely be a band ill be looking out for in the future and you should too...Â
It's hitting me all over again.Â
Crash, swish, boom.Â
Listen: HEAVY WAVES - No Good
Heavy Waves first release was titled 'Edward', and as if that wasn't enough to make me like them, they then released this. 'No Good', is a lo-fi garage rock gem that is no doubt going to draw comparisons to the 90's grunge movement and only in a good way. They've got an EP release later this year, so make sure you jump on their twitter, facebook or website or check back here for more. x
