𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒   𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐃   𝐇𝐈𝐏𝐒   ,   𝐄𝐋𝐁𝐎𝐖𝐒   𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐄𝐃   𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑   𝐒𝐎   𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐋𝐘   back   ,   feet   flat   on   the   floor   .   mea   leans   forward   ,   throws   on   a   nice   whiny   mocking   tone   .        ❛    yOu stAyed uP pAsT YouR BEdTimE aGaiN, DidN’T yOu   ?   shut   up   ,   who   are   you   ,   my   mom   ?    ❜        but   it   comes    teased   ,   on   a   laugh   ,   ducks   quick   enough   to   dodge   the   arm   going   for   her   neck   .        ❛    why   ,   do   i   look   tired   ?   i   was   up   composing   last   night   —   two   pieces   !   besides   ,   are   you   one   to   talk   ,   mister   ?   i   was   texting   hana   last   night   ,   where   were   you   ,   hm   ?   at   least   i   was   being   productive   .   pass   me   the   popcorn   and   tell   me   about   your   night   .    ❜

it’s nothing adversely non-chad. nothing ben’s not sure he hasn’t said to him a thousand times before, meaning it at different levels. it’s not chad’s fault it twists something familiar and unpleasant in his chest. he used to be a lot more prone to nerves, before he got used to the level of comfort required to be in his position. there’s no place for anxiety in his life, anymore. no room for anyone to see his hands shake. 

         he doesn’t regret the choices he’s made. a lot of good came from them that outweighs any way, angry and dark that anyone may feel about it. there’s a part of him though, young and longing, that misses the normalcy of the way things were. there used to be a comfort with audrey and chad at his side that’s empty now, even if someone else is standing there. this is part of the price he paid for fairness, opportunity for others that had done nothing. striking glares and unsubtle avoidance from people that hold important places in his heart.

people he misses, selfishly. this is hopeful. it’s the most chad’s talked to him in days. he doesn’t want to let it go. what else is there to do, when his ( former ? ) best friend is too busy to offer more than that ?

‘    I’LL KILL YOU  .    ’        IT COMES HEATLESS  ,      bored  .     it comes like elias usually does    —    monotonous  .     it’s what he likes  .     doesn’t mean he isn’t dangerous  .       eli flicks the pencil over  ,     wipes the corner of his mouth  .     his cheek is paper  -  creased  .       ‘   fuck  .    ’        a mutter  ,     a glance at his phone  .        ‘    what  ,     you work here    ?    i bought a coffee  ,     if i want to sleep on a wooden table  ,      i paid for the right  .    ’

‘    WHAT  ,   IS THIS AN INTERROGATION    ?    ’         pen cap does get spit out    /    lands with a rattle on his desk  .      where does this rage go    ?    where does the rage settle  ,     if not his jaw    ?     the palms of his hands  ?      he scribbles a chord progression  ,     can hear it in his head  .     it sounds violent  .        ‘   go away  .     i could be fighting  ,     this is at least productive  .     besides   ,    ’        he is not a big liar  ,     but the smile on his mouth is phony  .        ‘    it doesn’t even bother me  .    ’
