(BNHA) My fandom take that nobody likes is that it's dumb as fuckkkkk for All for One to have planned Tomura's entire life, and I think he was lying
All for One has every motivation to be lying to him, he wants Tomura to be distressed to force him out of "their" body. He's intentionally upsetting him yk like a master manipulator would do in this situation
The entire League (and really, every villain, hell every important character period) shares a theme of making choices that led them down the path they took. All for One himself (when in the same situation as Yoichi) chose to follow the path of the Demon Lord. Dabi (when in a similar situation as Shouto) chose to take the path of revenge. Himiko and Spinner (when in the same situation as other characters facing quirk discrimination) chose to be villains at the end of the day. There are very few exceptions to this rule, and it makes no sense to have the main villain break this rule
All for One only took Tomura specifically to taunt All Might/revenge against Nana. If he had really planned Tomura's whole life, why not bring this up when he brought up him being Nana's grandson?
The manipulation itself would be dumb af even if it were true, but this is long enough so I won't get into it here. In general though, there are a million ways that would have served All for One's purposes better
All for One was an unreliable narrator in his backstory too, and everyone takes him at face value. I don't understand it. He is clearly set up as a liar who will manipulate information for his own agenda
It makes Tomura's character infinitely less interesting to take away his agenda. His lack of agency can only go so far before it feels pointless (to me), and it turns his points about society into bullshit because it was really just one guy that fucked him over

i cannot BELIEVE people are fighting you on this because it's such a good take and I fully agree. I think it was a theory that had been floating around for a bit, so a lot of people were excited to see it come true. and while I get the breadcrumbs kind of sprinkled around leading up to it, and see how it linearly makes sense, I...really don't like it. at all. because I am 100% with you that it ruins the entire theme of the League of Villains. these were people born into circumstances outside of their control, but in a way that society should've been prepared for and accommodated. instead, they let all those people fall through the cracks and failed them. and while Decay is still technically a quirk outside of Tomura's control, it's so much more powerful to have someone like Toga, where her entire situation is "this is who i am, this is a part of me, and i still deserved to be loved for it." it was the same with Touya and his self-injurious quirk (under a father whose entire JOB was supposed to be protecting people, not abusing them), Spinner being a heteromorph (in a world that should be far beyond quirk bigotry, yet here we are), and both Twice and Magne being victims to real-life prejudice like classism, ableism, and transphobia. Tomura facing hardship as part of some big grand design...it just doesn't fit in with it at all.
i know Vigilantes came out after MHA was well underway of course, but I think it did a much better job with the "victims are forced into quirk-based villainy and have to live with the permanent aftermath of that" than the Tomura twist did. and while AFO is notorious for playing the long game, you're also absolutely right that he's notorious for lying as well. he had a whole damn grocery list of "reasons" why he wanted One For All and world domination, and he fed that to Aoyama, to All Might, to the League, to whoever! he could absolutely be making Tomura's whole backstory up. and while I do think there's enough evidence for me to go "sadly this plot point is canon and I'm just gonna have to be bitter about it," there's also enough evidence of AFO bullshitting for me to say "WELL I HAVE PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY!"
anyway yes. controversial opinion maybe, but you are NOT alone in it. i feel like that narrative choice really undermined a lot that had been set up for the League, and the theme that "society should treat people with respect, kindness, and accommodation regardless of if their innate qualities are 'acceptable' to the masses." because it made Tomura's qualities not innate!!! blargh!!!!!!!
