‘Liam? You home?’ Mason yelled over his shoulder when he heard the door shut. No answer.
‘Liam? Buddy? Bring me a coke from the fridge?’ Mason rubbed his temples as he tried to wrap his head around the reading for his Medieval English class. It seemed like it would be an easy A, but now that they were a few weeks in he was hating it.
Slow foot steps preceded Liam wandering into the living room and crashing into the armchair like all the air had gone out of him.
‘Liam?’ Mason closed his laptop. Liam’s hair was a mess. His shirt was rumpled. And he had a huge, goofy grin on his face.
‘You with me man?’
‘Why didn’t you tell me making out with a guy was so... awesome.’ Liam gave a relaxed exhale that made Mason tilt his head.
‘The date went well I’m guessing.’
‘Yes. Well, no. It was kind of a disaster. I kind of ordered something that turned out to be like... liver? But a paste. And a bunch of other weird stuff because it was in French...’
‘And you wanted to be smooth.’ Mason said.
‘Exactly! And then, I kind of spilled it? And then got into a fight with the waiter because he was being snooty and made me feel stupid.’
‘Wow.’
‘And we kinda got kicked out.’
‘Shit. And your date stuck it out?’
‘He was kinda the one that got us kicked out. Man, he went up one side of that guy and down the other like a goddamn chainsaw!’ Liam beamed.
‘So he basically came to your rescue.’ Mason said as Liam melted into the chair. He rolled his eyes--Liam could be so dramatic. At least it was easier to get details out of him like this.
‘And then what happened?’ Mason asked.
‘We walked in the park. And then found this quiet spot by the pond. And the sun was setting. And he... kissed me. And I kissed him. And...’ Liam suddenly turned red and shot up in his chair. Mason smirked--there was the embarrassed Liam he knew and loved.
‘Ohmygodhekissedme!’ Liam mumbled. ‘We kissed. I kissed. Lips! They... went together...’
‘Liam, I know how kissing works.’ Mason chuckled. ‘So... second date?’
‘Definitely.’ Liam said, sinking back into his love sick stupor.

‘Okay. I’ll bite. What’s up?’ Corey said from the kitchen table as he watched Theo rummage through the fridge.
‘What? Nothing’s up.’ Theo said as he pulled out the things he needed to make a sandwich. He held up the bread and glanced at Corey. His roommate nodded and Theo started making two sandwiches.
‘Something is definitely up. I can tell.’ Corey said as Theo handed him a sandwich and jumped into the empty spot on the couch beside his friend.
‘And just how can you tell that?’ Theo said with a smug grin.
‘You’ve been humming since you came in.’ Corey said as he took a bite out of his sandwich. Theo nearly choked on his food.
‘That’s not... That’s because I heard a catchy song.’
‘Theo. You’re humming Fly Me To The Moon.’
‘That’s because I’m happy. Because I totally got this guy on the hook. So easy. And now I’ll reel him in and destroy him.’ Theo said waving Corey’s words away.
‘Where did you take him?’
‘The Bistro down the block. I thought they’d be good since they’re so damn expensive.’
‘Food sucked?’
‘Well we never really got to that part.’
‘What?’ Corey frowned.
‘The waiter treated him like an idiot. I mean, he’s not that quick on the uptake, but he’s basically a puppy. And the guy was kicking him. Who kicks puppies?’ Theo said.
‘So you...’
‘Got in his face! And then we left.’
‘You got kicked out.’ Corey grinned. Theo’d gotten them kicked out of several cafes and diners since he knew him.
‘That’s not the point.’ Theo said.
‘You’re right. I think the point is you’re into this guy.’ Corey smiled.
‘Oh, please.’
‘You made out with him.’ Corey finished his sandwich.
‘All part of the plan.’
‘At the park.’
‘The park is nice.’
‘Where Brett broke up with you.’ Corey said.
‘I broke up with him.’ Theo frowned.
Corey sighed. Sometimes it was impossible to get through to Theo.
‘What now?’ Corey said.
‘Another date. Maybe two. Then I’ll come down on his heart like a sledgehammer.’ Theo said.
‘Mmmm hmmm.’ Corey said, nodding. ‘Good luck with that.’
‘I don’t need luck. Got it all planned. There’s gonna be tears. Yelling. Maybe a fight. I might wear my purple shirt. Or the blue one. Which one makes me look hotter? Got to look good to drive it home. Corey?’ Theo scanned the room. His roommate had gone to his room.
‘Ha. “I’m into the guy”. Whatever.’ Theo mumbled into the bread as he took a bite. Love was stupid.
