HEAVY rambling under the cut
you guys have no idea how long i thought about these designs dude. MCD Rebirth Aph was already figured out ages ago, shes the version ive drawn the most atp. but to get the distinction between ALL of them took a long think from me.
its also why Void Paradox Aphmau is uh.. not here. shes very different from all the other Aphs, thats for sure. but its also hard to just. get her out. i want to make sure i draw her right. shes not like the others, where its easy to figure them out and just create a silly design. no, she actually needs the right nuance from me.
i had similar feelings in regards to Heart Point Aphmau, which is why she comes across so differently from the others. HP and VP Aph require something necessary from me, and that takes time to get out and onto a page.

like i wanna land on SOMETHING that feels right. but because of my brain, i keep changing things or mixing up details. and its REALLY easy to mix up details when there are. SO MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF APHMAU

IRENE. late MCD Aph, MCD Rebirth Aph, PDH Aph, FCU Aph, Mystreet Aph, WEREWOLF Mystreet Aph, Void Paradox/MMW Aph, Mermaid Tales Aph, Heart Point Aph, ASMP Aph, freaking Alternates Aph, and probably a LOT MORE I DONT HAVE LISTED DOWN.
her design has ALSO changed a lot. so i have to consider all of them all at once and where the changes are/should go
NOT TO MENTION. AVA. Who looks a LOT like Aphmau, but certainly isnt/hopefully isnt/SHOULD NOT BE an Aphmau variant. Now, i have Ava's design in the bag. BUT, BECAUSE SHE IS PHYSICALLY. PRETTY APHMAU LOOKING. I GET THE HAIR MIXED UP A LITTLE. and. oh man. it hurts. it hurts drawing ANY of this stuff wrong. it hurts forgetting how my character designs are supposed to look. so im CONSTANTLY going back and forth in my sketchbook, desperately hoping i dont change her design halfway through cause i forgot how i drew her (you will notice this in my PDH Aphmau art now btw. I GAVE HER THE WRONG BANGS AT ONE POINT. IT HURTS UAGHEBDKDHD)

Not enough people talk about Heart Point and its themes of fitting into expectations and the way teenagers feel the need to grow up too fast because OMGGGG.
Like, Aphmau's boyfriend dumped her because she was 'too silly' and he wanted to be taken more seriously. But with his new girlfriend, she's forcing him to be too serious, think about the future and not the NOW. Who he has to be. And he realizes he misses being with the girl who reminded him he IS still just a kid.
Ryo is also victim to this, in his own way. He wants to seem like's cool, mysterious, mature but still rebellious. He wants to be taken seriously, people to take his 'brooding' seriously. But Aphmau didn't stand for any of that and instead teased him about it. And rather than feeling defensive about this facade being made fun of, he actually appreciates it. He finds joy in her whimsical, silly nature. She reminds him it's ok to be scared and have issues and to be open. That he is still just a kid.
That's why during that scene about prom, when she was hiding HER emotions, he didn't stand for it. Because she taught him to not do that, so he was going to return the favor. By having her admit that she IS silly. And that's ok because it is her greatest strength. That it makes her genuine and that she is a CHILD. She can be as silly as she wants to be, so she doesn't need to force herself to hide her emotions because that's what 'mature' people do. That she can whine and complain about prom as much as she wants to Ryo.
Because that is what he WANTS. He doesn't want her to start putting on this facade of maturity like everyone else is. He wants her to be HER. Still a kid, and he can also remind himself when he's around her that he's also still a kid.
Just... AGHHHH. I love Heart Point so much and Ryo is so underrated. I wish he was in some of her other series.

Recently decided to revisit this series, and I can't believe I've never drawn fanart for it. While binging Heart Point, it reminded me of when my friend and I would watch Mystreet episodes and draw together after school, so I did quick redraws of my old art.
Originally, I started this drawing shortly after episode 2 of Mermaid Tales Season 2 Episode 2 came out ! Though I got sidetracked thanks to me rejoining my MHA phase as well as school.. whoops. Well I finished it today though !! Hope you like it!
DRAWING EASTER EGGS:
- All the scenes in the memory bubble either include the specific scene referenced in the voice lines in the episode, or includes some of Aphmau’s series!
- I know lady Irene specifically had a scene of her own, however the small tiny glowing dots, or mini memory bubbles, represent Irene! It’s because she’s mostly the reason why everything happens. She’s the tiny bubbles that form into bigger bubbles, which make up Aphmau’s universes if that makes sense.
