So, at age 57, the sound cut out for me at 4600.00 Hz but came back at 4700.00 Hz! Then it stopped at 7500.00 Hz, came back at 7800.00 Hz, but disappeared forever after that.

reasons why i could only hear up to 15000 hertz even though i’m only 18 years old (i could feel 16000 tho):
i was a percussionist in high school! really fun but really loud (especially when we rehearsed inside)
no one told me i needed ear plugs for percussion until sophomore year (i’m looking at you, RYAN)
performing at indoor stadiums for winter percussion
watching other groups’ winter percussion shows at indoor stadiums
going to drum corps international finals weekend for the past five years (see: wall of sound) (literally made my insides vibrate (but it was SO COOL))
late night jam sessions where i didn’t wanna wake anyone up so i would wear headphones and go HAM
trying to listen to music on an airplane and the babies all met up and decided to have a collective scream together at the same time
turning the volume up in my headphones so i could hear and decipher the bass line in a song (because it’s cool and bass lines deserve more love)
pushing the button that throws out clays while watching my family shoot sporting clays recreationally (while wearing ear plugs but i bet it’s still not great for me) (everyone was being safe, don’t worry, we take that shit seriously)
trying to recreate the drum corps wall of sound while listening to recordings form years past so i could feel something again
i haven’t found a better way to clean my ears other than using a q-tip and I KNOW ITS BAD FOR ME BUT IM NOT ABOUT TO GET AN AS SEEN ON TV EAR VACCUUM BECAUSE THATS SO WEIRD OKAY

I'm seeing a new audie on Monday after much encouragement from my girlfriend. I learned last week that my insurance will cover up to $2000 per ear every 36 months. I almost cried when I found that out. I've had to pay out of pocket for the last three pair I've had, over $5000 for a pair. At one point, it was a choice between new pair of hearing aids and a car...
Health care insurance in the US blows a lot of the time.
That being said, I'm looking to get the newest kind of aids out there. I've only used Widex and Phonak but am open to others.
What would you guys recommend? I currently wear bilateral BTE with moderate-severe (some areas profound), Phonak Audéo.
I'm not looking forward to being stuck in a soundproof booth for a half hour to get a hearing test... but it's important.
