The morning started with a gentle warmth, much like the sun outside my window, but my thoughts were lingering on the recent passing of some childhood icons. It's funny how these things make you reflect. I'm sure countless people are diving into their own nostalgic memories right now, and I'm right there with them. Even the moments I grumbled about at the time now bring a smile to my face. Like the time Dad surprised me with Ozzy tickets, but the catch was I had to bring my baby brother along. Or when Mom took us to see the wrestlers, her patience undoubtedly was tested by our excitement. And the weekly Cosby Show viewings, often punctuated by my sibling squabbles over who got to sit where. Good times, even the slightly chaotic ones.
Despite the reflective start, it's Friday, and the sun is shining brightly, so I've got a good feeling about today. My morning walk with Roman, however, was a little different. I felt a need to be a bit more alert than usual. Another person was out with their dogs, and they deliberately stayed in the corner of the parking lot, clearly not wanting our dogs to meet. That was perfectly fine by me. Roman and I just carried on, him bounding around while I kept a brisk pace. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was behind us, lurking in the shadows.
And then, as if to confirm some kind of ethereal presence, I spotted it: a beautiful, bright orange feather. I had to pick it up, snap a quick picture, and then gently place it back. I rarely see that particular shade of orange, and it made me wonder what it could signify. Not much further, a heart-shaped rock appeared on our path. What do these little signs mean?
As we reached a certain point, Roman, with his keen senses, noticed the fox before I did. He was absolutely fixated. Then I saw it too, darting across the field, down the hill, and disappearing into the treesβa truly beautiful sight. Roman just sat there, taking it all in, before he decided he should probably run down the hill too! On our way back, we spotted the other person with their dogs again, still in the shadows, so we opted to stick to the road. It just feels right to ensure everyone can enjoy Mother Nature comfortably, even if it means a slight detour for us.

Even when faced with minor anxieties (like feeling someone in the shadows) or small detours (walking on the road for others' comfort), there's still beauty to be found in the unexpectedβa vibrant feather, a heart-shaped rock, or the graceful run of a fox. Sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones you don't plan for, and the best way to navigate them is with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. Life's detours often lead to its most beautiful views.
