Mind if I yap about a couple from a cancelled childhood show for a bit?
The couple in question are Raven Queen and Dexter Charming from EAH
I haven't seen anyone point this out but honestly I've loved these two since middle school namely because they are both misfits in their own contexts ... like ... if you go back to the earliest webisodes, you see how neither of these two kids have ever felt comfortable in their own skin.
On the first day of school the moment Raven enters the doorstep everybody runs and screams in fear all because of her last name - Queen, as in the daughter of the despicable Evil Queen from "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs". She's never hurt a fly in her whole life and yet they all willingly choose to exclude her all because her family lineage has negative history in their world.
The only person who bothers to share a word with her is Dexter - second-born son of The Charming Prince (now known as king Charming) who doesn't quite fit the mold of dashing heroic princes his family is known for. Instead he's an awkward clumsy geek who lives in the shadow of his popular heartthrob jock of a brother Daring. Based on the very first on-screen convo pookies have together, it kinda gives off the impression he's so invisible that even she doesn't know who he is :
"I'd offer you a seat but I'm ..."evil"? To sit here you have to pretty daring."
"What? No, Raven, I'm Dex! Dexter Charming! Daring is my broth- *bright flash from behind* ... er"
Then you fast forward to Legacy Day. Raven makes the bold decision she won't become the hideous monster everybody expects her to be. And if all the students were judgemental of her before, they become even colder and boo at her because how DARE she chooses happiness over getting locked up inside of a cursed mirror for the rest of eternity. Afterwards individuals such as Headmaster Grimm, Apple White and the rest of the royals do everything in their power to convince her that she has to subject herself to a horrible tragic fate or otherwise the apocalypse will ensue (which we all find out is complete BS later on ofc).
But not Dexter. He simply DGAF and the way he treats her doesn't change one bit. He admires her so much he often refers to her with her full name as if she's this cool popular girl that's way out of his league but she isn't. She's that notoruis goth who refused to sign the book.
Can we appreciate him real quick? After my last rewatch i noticed he acts like a gentleman with everyone, not just Raven - he was just taught well. You can almost hear him being supportive of Cerise wanting to join the bookball team before Sparrow interrupts him and when he asks Cupid for love advice, he still values their friendship and doesn't take her help for granted. He even hands her a book on the history of True Hearts Day simply because he knows she'd be interested to read it since romance and matchmaking is her whole thing (he's a dream prince on all fronts and doesn't even know it)
At the beginning the attraction seems one-sided but little by little Raven's facial expressions and gestures around him start to imply that she very obviously likes him back. (bby girl never expected true love to be in the cards for her btw)
When they go on their first date both of them are a crippling mess of nerves. That's usual for Dexter, but Raven is normally totally chill and composed about most things. And yet here she is pacing the floor in her dorm room trying to look her best before he arrives, only to end up accidentally ruining the bouquet he brings with her magic. And later in the movie theater, when she sees all the couples around them getting all gushy and intimate, she lashes out and makes them all freeze in place (same stress impulse she had on Legacy Day). Dexter is obviously startled by this but doesn't bolt and run. Instead he turns to look at her with concern as she timidly comes closer and admits she's extremely nervous.
And then the ice breaks. They're both nervous and that's okay. All their lives the world has tried to enforce standarts on these kids about who they're supposed to be and shame them for failing to achieve it by either getting bullied or completely ignored by the crowd. But now for the first time they suddenly feel so at ease to just be themselves with someone who understands them. BRB gonna smush my face in a pillow and cry đ
Did i mention these dorks are swifties and love the song "Enchanted"?? This is a real canon thing in the books, go look it up.
Normally i don't do long analysis stuff like this but sweet green-flag boys who take care of their wounded misunderstood girlfriends is my kryptonite - Katniss & Peeta, Ekko & Jinx, Max Mayfield & Lucas Sinclair, the list goes on ...
Forever upset at Mattel for not letting these two sail officially. Their first date went well so can't they just ... take off? Like fr just let them hug, kiss, hold hands, do couple stuff like Huntlynn IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT!!
Their on-screen interactions are so limited but have so much more lovable charm and personality than their cheap Temu knock-offs from Descendants could ever pull off, sorry, i am not sorry.
Also these are official photos of their matched doll set, I mean hOW PRECIOUS ARE THOSE??? đđđđđđđâ¨ď¸đŚââŹđ
P.S.: the sudden urge to write all this kinda came from a very eye-opening session I had with my therapist last week (she's an angel) about how growing up as the "different" kid affects you as an adult. No wonder we're such suckers for the heartfelt trope of "You're not ugly. The world is." â¤ď¸âđŠš

I almost finish chapter 3 of Ever After High and brother I hate headmaster grimm so much, fuck him for ever after I'm so serious.
"Oh there was this one time when I was a kid that I didn't listen to the story and put my brother in danger and when he came back perfectly fine it traumatized me for life" like you dumb old fuck you later kept your brother trapped under the school and fucking cursed him so he wouldn't be able to talk, you don't give a shit about your brother and you're so incredibly lucky he's kinda dumb so he forgave you even tho you didn't do anything to deserve it.
Oh and let's not forget the fact that you TRICK TEENAGERS into believing stories that you KNOW are not true, like you LITERALLY know theyâre not true but you have "trauma" or something so yeah let's make these kids belive that if they don't follow their depressing stories all theyâre friends are gonna die
Like I was giving him the benefit of the doubt at first but after the episode where he makes Blondie film the school myths to prove that theyâre real and to scare the kids into following theyâre stories AND HE FAKES THEM LIKE WHAT I was so done with him, yup he's evil. Also when he traded Raven's gift for a coin for the magic well??? First of all, that's theft and he hasn't returned it yet, BUT HE FAKED THE ANSWER THE WELL GAVE HER, IF YOU BELIVE THE LEGENDS ARE SO REAL WHY ARE YOU DOING ALL THIS?! SHOULDN'T YOU TRUST THE WELL WILL TELL THE TRUTH??? UNLESS THE TRUTH CONTRADICTS YOUR CLAIMS
Uuuuuuuugh I'm watching Way To Wonderland right now and like always he's a pain in the ass. I hope that by the end of this my questions will be answered.
Iâll be blunt, when I was younger watching EAH on Netflix. I genuinely thought that if Cerise and her and her familyâs secret got out that she and the rest of her family would be executed for âtreasonâ and âselfishlyâ risking their story and their relatives and themselves for their âselfish lustâ and for the crime of being born. OK, I know this is dark but at the same time, can you blame younger me? Sure, I didnât read the books but there was already so much dark undertones in the episodes I watched on Netflix and I think most children would pick up on the dark undertones of what could happen to Cerise and her family even if their thoughts on what could happen were probably less darker than mine especially because of how everybody treated Raven because she dared to question the status quo. Still think if Headmaster Grimm found out that one of his staff had two children with his destined enemy and meal, he would âdisposeâ of them because they are proof that what he is saying is bullshit because they didnât go poof when they broke their destiny and would cut off Cerise and her sisterâs ears off to hide their wolf heritage. I know itâs morbid, but the series was already dark so I think this head cannon is pretty fitting.
Listen guys, I think Headmaster Grimm is a villain in canon. He manipulates and endangers children and that's very bad.
However... I love the idea of rewriting him to be a guy just trying to do his job. Like, let him also be effected by generations of conformity! He is merely a cog in the machine of destiny!
Doesn't necessarily mean he isn't perpetuating lies. He believes in the storybook of legends and ultimately doesn't want kids to get hurt. And like, he's just the principle trying deal with the antics of magic teenagers and now he's dealing with a revolution.

My tiny child brain was totally empty when I first watched EAH so I never had strong opinions about any characters, including Apple and Headmaster Grimm.
But. The only reason I started disliking Grimm was when he insinuated rock music was evil in Rebel's Got Talent. And with me and my AC/DC-loving parents, I was like "hey >:((("
But for lterally everything else he did, I was??? not mad??? I was never like "hey maybe this man is behaving unreasonably" until Rebel's Got Talent?? what was i doing??
honestly it's a very kid thing to have happen lol
a lot of kids don't really get the big looming threats but once it's something they relate to they understand
Ever After High and Spider-Verse really reminds me of each other.
Itâs been awhile since Iâve watched Ever After High so my memory of it isnât the best.
What happens if you donât sign the Story Book of Legends and donât go through with a canon event are literally the same thing. The characters in that story and the people in that dimension will cease to exist. Or so weâre told.
Raven Queen and Miles Morales would be friends imo. They both donât want to go through with what everyone is telling them. Raven doesnât want to go through with her story and Miles doesnât want to go through with his canon event. They both believe that there has to be another option.
Raven and Miles even say similar things. Raven saying that her name was Raven Queen and that she was going to write her own destiny. Miles saying that his name was Miles Morales and that everyone kept telling him how his story was supposed to go and that he was going to do his own thing.
Headmaster Grimm and Miguel OâHara also really remind me of each other. Headmaster Grimm trying to enforce that the book gets signed and everyone goes through with their destiny and Miguel trying to make sure everyone goes through with their canon events. Both done out of loss. Miguel lost his AU daughter (but Iâm pretty sure he was enforcing the canon events before that but he became more strict about it after the loss) and Headmaster Grimm thought he lost his brother. (I donât remember much about that so I donât know if that had anything to do with the Story book of Legends.)
Gwen Stacy and Briar Beauty also kinda remind me of each other.
