do you have any favorite ballet performances? i'm interested in drawing some dance poses but i don't know where to look
WAH OMG YES
okay so first of all I have to admit that I'm terrible about answering this in actuality but in terms of interesting art references, i Have Thoughts
the easy option is just to go stalk any company/choreographer/dancer's instagram page, but some starting points that I enjoy include:
Australia Ballet (their publicity photos of the Nijinsky production esp have had me being like "someone draw this!!")
Justin Peck has some fun ones for more "behind the scenes" poses/shots
dancersdiary on Instagram takes fabulous photos (mostly Royal Ballet iirc)
the ballerina project is like...gold standard in dance photography (imo and for a specific type of dance photography but.) though it's posed photography and not actual dance/choreography*
Colorado Ballet also has a solid mix of both classical and comtemp photos
Akram Khan's choreo is a mix of ballet and Kathak (if I remember correctly??) and his Giselle is particularly known in the ballet world + visually striking
Joffrey's another good one for a variety of references
and my actual favorite ballet productions include Donald Byrd's "From Other Suns," Choo San Goh's "Momentum" and "Fives," and this one piece by the Korean National Ballet that I can't for the life of me find the name of orz orz
*just depends if you're looking for dance poses or dancing caught on camera, basically
