Triangle Strategy
Originally released in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch and later expanded to additional platforms, Triangle Strategy represents the culmination of producer Tomoyo Asano’s long career in RPGs, alongside co-developer Artdink under Square Enix. It is also one of the early titles of the HD-2D artstyle: a blend of pixel-art characters, dynamic lighting, and cinematic camera work set within fully realized 3D environments. The aesthetic deliberately evokes the 16-bit era of JRPGs, especially a title like Final Fantasy VI.

Dec. 24th 2023 - I can’t believe it, but I beat Octopath Traveller 2. This was hands down my favourite JRPG of the year and I’m so immensely overwhelmed I beat it. I’m sad it’s over, but the journey was worth it. This might be my personal GOTY! Best Christmas Eve in years.
Not gonna lie, I love these HD-2D remakes of older games. I feel like they've given pixel art new life and that they make older games all the more visually accessible while preserving some of their original spirit.
On top of that, I LOVE that they look like little dioramas. So cute!

Overview
Three nations battle for control of the dwindling resources of salt and iron in Square Enix’s newest HD-2D adventure.
Command a group of warriors as Serenoa, heir of House Wolffort, in a tangled plot where your decisions make all the difference. Key choices you make will bolster one of three convictions—Utility, Morality, Liberty—which together make up Serenoa’s world view and influence how the story will unfold. When faced with truly momentous decisions, multiple characters will weigh in by casting their votes on the Scales of Conviction. In these moments, the allies and decisions you make can determine the fate of whole nations and the continent of Norzelia itself.
Control multi-tiered battlefields to strategically secure victory.
Finding the best location in turn-based battles can tip the tide of combat in your favor. Position units on higher ground to take control of the battlefield and gain the advantage with increased range. You can also flank enemies on both sides, then strike from behind for a powerful follow-up attack. Elemental chain reactions are also an important part of combat. For example, use fire to melt icy terrain, then use lightning to electrocute it. Push the enemy into the electrified water to see sparks fly in stunning HD-2D visuals!
