HENRY: April 15, 2018, 8:52 PM.Hawksnest, Kansas
HENRY: This thing working? [THERE ARE A FEW CLICKS AND ROUGH NOISES} Yeah, yeah, it’s working alright.
HENRY: The house is honestly so much more than I have ever expected. The pictures really didn’t do it much justice. Sure, there are mice everywhere, but they’re pretty cute—as long as we don’t leave any food on the floor, we’ll be good. The barn is nice too. Kinda creepy now that it’s dark and all. But all barns are like that out here in Kansas, right? That’s what I’ve been told, at least. Water pressure’s good. Doesn’t really hurt to take a shower like it did in the apartment. It’s a great view, too. I climbed up on the roof to check for any problems and wow—you can see the town from up there. There’s a little spot right in between that tower-looking thing and the pointy spot on the roof that’s perfect for sitting. Maya told me not to, but who cares? If I fall, I’ll survive. Maybe.
HENRY: Anyways, I decided to write down everything that goes on here. Plant progress, animals, Maya’s pregnancy. The decorations, too, but that’s mainly Maya’s thing. I have no sense of style whatsoever. She already checked out the soil when we arrived—great for planting. We’re gonna research a little more before we start growing something. We’re good, but we’re not quite experts yet, are we, Maya?
MAYA [FROM THE KITCHEN]: Speak for yourself.
HENRY [CHUCKLING]: I’m not quite an expert yet, then.
[ROUGH NOISES, HENRY IS TOUCHING THE TAPE RECORDER]
HENRY: Okay, well, that’s really it for tonight. See ya, uh, see you tomorrow? Yeah, yeah.

So, I found this flash drive in the woods, right? Well, I plugged it into my computer, even though I know it could have given my computer a virus or whatever, but I was curious. Anyway, it opened this up. It was a folder with a bunch of voice memos, and I just had to transcribe it to the best of my abilities. But I’m not really good at transcribing stuff, so bear with me. This is the first one, and it’s… kind of boring. I’m assuming the guy speaking is Henry because his name is on the outside of it. “Henry Schmitt” is the full name. I think this Maya lady is his wife. Here’s the strange part, though. I looked it up, and “Hawksnest, Kansas” isn’t a place! Like, it doesn’t exist. Maybe Hawksnest is what they called their house? I don’t know, but it’s kind of creepy. I asked my mom about it because she’s from Kansas, and she said she knew nothing. If Hawksnest ever was a place, then it completely disappeared in the span of three years. I’m talking no news articles, photos, maps, memories—nothing! It’s honestly sorta depressing. Anyway, here’s what I’ve gathered about these people so far. Henry and Maya are married, engaged, or dating. Probably. Maya’s pregnant, most likely with Henry’s baby. They moved from an apartment out to the country where they plan to be farmers. Henry sounds kind of depressed because he doesn’t care if he falls off the roof and dies or not. Kidding. I’m gonna do some more research and see if I can find anything about this “Hawksnest” place. Meanwhile, I’ll post this on some form of social media, so maybe other people will see it and help me out.
