Hoax and esther have an alright relationship but its not as close as it could be.

The difference in ages, experiences and eras makes it difficult for them to have any deeper connection.

Hoax sees his own sister in Esther sometimes, Esther and his sister have quite similar attitudes and he feels paternal towards her at times, but he is NOT a good example on either of them.

He actively omits any information to Katherine and/or Nathan when she does do anything crazy, and sometimes he encourages her black magic and cursecasting. Although its mostly from a distance. But Esther does come to him from time to time if she doesnt have a lighter, because Hoax’s little mini ghost power is being able to start a spark like an old gas lighter. It can come in handy if she doesnt want to cause a huge fire on the premises of the underveil so she sees him as an ally.

Its likely that Hoax and Esther would be the greatest of comerades if he was born in her generation.
