Moonglow, Sunshine is part of a timeskip/potential future I'd been imagining for the cast for a while, inspired by a desire to give Gladion an ending where he doesn't have to go back to the Aether Foundation.

For this particular fic, sure I wanted something cute and soft and fluffy, but I also wanted to write about like... how getting out of a bad situation can still leave its mark - and how having the right person there to help may not fix it, but can make it a hell of a lot easier. I suppose, in that sense, it was an echo of personal experience.

And, as I said, this let me come up with this big alternate future for the gang. I actually really wanted to make this into a series where I go into everyone's futures, and I still might do it!! The wedding mentioned in the fic (Selene and Lillie's!) does have a wip document going that I really really want to finish, and I do want to write something about how they got together in this particular universe (which is right after the wedding).

Also, this little house on the edge of town idea is one I've really liked for a while, and have come back to (if you've read As the Sun Hits, you may see where that's going lol). The house itself as a setpiece is kind of the fantasy of it. Something small and away from all the harshness of the past where you can hear the ocean and watch the world go by. It's small, but it's something they have for themselves. Again, I just wanted to invoke that whole feeling of it's over, you're safe now. A fantasy, perhaps, but it's a nice one nonetheless.

This fic still shows my rustiness with getting back to writing, but I think it holds up. I think if I were to write it again I'd do a lot more yes, and-ing and fully dig into the themes (and maybe eventually I will). I guess I didn't want it to be like 9000 words but if you've seen the newest chapter of SYE uh... I don't have that reservation anymore.

I had a lot of fun writing this. I think it's what really cemented this ship for me not just as a ship I really like, but a straight up obsession. Idk man there's so much potential for growth between the two of them that I'd love to keep looking at. They're so interesting as rivals, as friends, as lovers, as bitter enemies, as whatever you want them to be.

Actually, looking back on everything I've written makes me really want to lean more into the rivalry and possibly even hostility they may hold (which I'm definitely currently doing in Start Your Engines, and heck I've got a full blown enemies to lovers idea waiting in the wings...)

I do still love the fluff though. I wrote this at a time of just wanting something that would say it's all going to be okay. Comfy stuff, yanno?
