theme: idol bf!heechan x gf!reader, super fluff, mildly suggestive?, heechan being a menace words: 2.2k more here
"Babe, guess who's done with practice?"
"Ooh, that's a toughie. I'm gonna have to say... you?"
"Correct! Where are you? I'll pick you up."
"Just finishing up at the office, meet me outside?"
"See you soon."
The phone call ended and you sighed, a small smile tickling your lips. Your boyfriend, Heechan, was rarely free at a reasonable hour, so you knew he was going to take advantage of this opportunity. Dating an idol is not for the faint-hearted - some weeks, your schedules lined up so poorly that the closest thing you had to a date was falling asleep on a video call together. However, your office schedule also kept you relatively busy, taking up the space in your brain reserved for missing him more often than you'd like to admit.
Each night, Heechan would send you an elaborate message or a slumber-filled voice note detailing everything he had accomplished that day, and how many times he'd thought about you, and which cloud in the sky reminded him of your hair today. No matter how late it was and how tired he was feeling, for the seven months you had been dating he had not missed a single day. Dedicated and diligent, he had the same ethic at work as well as your relationship, much to his manager's dismay. He had stopped pretending to be surprised long ago whenever Heechan disappeared during breaks to call you.
You finished up with the complicated spreadsheet, saving and shutting down your computer. After an exaggerated stretch, you gathered your things and made your way down to the main lobby, stopping in the bathroom to ensure your makeup was still intact after tirelessly slaving away at your desk. Satisfied after some preening, you hurried through the building and searched for your boyfriend. His height made it impossible to miss him, towering over most people in the lobby. Making your way to him, you tapped him on the shoulder. He whipped around, his face breaking into a grin as he lifted you up and twirled you around. You giggled at his silliness, your own smile spreading across your face.
"Hello, angel." His soft timbre was a beautiful melody circling through your eardrums as he gently set you back down, his arms staying wrapped around your waist. He gently nudged his nose with yours, closing his eyes and softly inhaling your rose-scented perfume.
"Hi." You smiled, your hands sliding up to rest against his chest in the gentle embrace. "So you've got some free time, huh?"
"I have. And I've got a surprise for you." Heechan took your hand in his, lacing your small fingers between his large ones, guiding you out of the office building and towards the mall at the end of the street.
"Where are we going?" You asked, falling into step with him and letting him gently guide you to your fate. Taking the escalator, you peered over at Heechan, watching as a gentle smile spread across his face. When you arrived at your destination, you knew exactly why Heechan was smiling - you were at the movie theatre.
Heechan loved movies. The word 'loved' might even be an understatement. Heechan lived for movies. And his absolute favourite place in the world? The movie theatre. It wasn't a surprise that he had chosen the venue that housed the biggest screen in Seoul and offered the most ridiculous array of popcorn flavours. You breathed in the delicious scent and looked over to your boyfriend who was practically fizzing with electric excitement.
"I had a funny feeling this is where we'd end up." You chuckled, squeezing Heechan's hand. You started to walk towards the concessions stand, but Heechan stayed in his place, a big grin still plastered on his face. "Hee, what are you doing?"
"Nothing." He shook his head far too quickly. You narrowed your eyes.
"You're hiding something."
"I absolutely am not."
"You absolutely are."
"Just pick your popcorn, angel." He narrowed his eyes at you, but he couldn't even pretend to be mad because of his uncontainable smile.
You made your way over to the snacks, tapping your index finger to your lips as you tried to make the difficult decision of which flavour to try. You quickly checked over your shoulder to make sure you weren't creating a line, but luckily there was no one there. In fact, there didn't seem to be anyone in the lobby, apart from the staff members. You made eye contact with the ticket booth worker, and she greeted you with a gentle knowing smile. You returned the smile in politeness, having a quick look around the rest of the theatre lobby. You were perplexed - the screen showed the next movie started in 20 minutes, yet there were no customers to be seen. Was there a holiday you had forgotten about? A concert? Some huge sporting event? Something wasn't adding up - for a theatre this popular, the silence felt strange.
“What flavour do you want to try?” Heechan’s voice broke through your thought clouds. He scanned the flavour list with his finger, settling on one label. “I think I want to try the banana cream. Do you want to get a half-and-half bucket and try two flavours?”
“Sure.” You agreed, absentmindedly looking over your shoulder again, an uneasy feeling settling in your stomach. You brought your attention back to the popcorn options. “I think I want caramel.”
“Really? That’s so boring.” He teased, poking you in the side.
“Hey! I like what I like.” You held your hands up in mock surrender. Heechan ordered the popcorn and a large Cola with two straws, cocking his head to the side indicating to follow. The uneasy feeling continued growing in your stomach as you walked towards the screen, still without finding a single other customer.
“You’re going to love this.” Heechan grinned at you again, nearly breaking into a run towards the screen.
“Okay, either we’re watching a dirty movie or you’ve somehow arranged the theater to show my favourite film.” You laughed, and Heechan wiggled his brows at you. Something told you that it probably wasn’t the latter option. Heechan pushed the screen door open with his back, his hands still full with snacks, and you followed, still completely unaware of what the so-called ‘surprise’ was. As you rounded the corner, you saw the screen of around 100 crimson seats completely empty. “Huh?”
“Welcome,” Heechan started, setting down the snacks and holding his arms out. “To your private screening.”
You blinked at him. “Heechan…”
“Pretty cool, right?” His grin widened.
“Did you rent out an entire cinema screen?”
“Maybe.”
“Maybe?”
“Okay, yes, fine! But in my defence, I missed you.” He pouted, gently winding his arms around your waist and pulling you close. He rested his forehead against yours briefly. “Surprise, angel.”
“Wow, I can’t believe it. Hee, I don’t know what to say.” You stared at him, completely awestruck at this wonderful, completely unnecessary, crazy surprise. “You rented out an entire theatre because you missed me?”
“When you say it like that, it sounds a little insane.”
“A little?”
“I just wanted to surprise my girlfriend who I haven’t seen in so long I thought I was going to die! Besides, popcorn always tastes better at the movie theater.” Heechan winked, picking up the snacks and taking a seat middle centre – the best seats in the house. He patted the seat next to him, and the moment you sat down, his arm stretched across the back of your chair.
“Comfortable?”
“Very.”
“Good. You’re not allowed to leave for the next two hours.”
“Sounds threatening.”
“It’s romantic.” He deadpanned, pulling you closer to him. Your head rested against his strong shoulder and you inhaled his faint woody aftershave, sighing in content. This moment – being in Heechan’s arms – was everything.
The lights dimmed and the room fell into a comfortable darkness. Heechan placed the popcorn in between you and grabbed a handful, squeezing your shoulder with his other hand. The film started up on the screen (did Heechan pay extra for no adverts?) and you shifted your attention towards it. It was a screening of the new romance film you’d told Heechan about last month, and you were caught off guard by how grateful you felt that he remembered. You swung your legs onto the seat, settling in to watch the film and grabbing a handful of popcorn yourself. The caramel flavour was deliciously sweet, a perfect sugary hit after a long day at the office.
“How’s the popcorn?” Heechan whispered in your ear, his breath sending a small shiver through you.
“Delicious. But, why are you whispering?” You looked at him quizzically. “There’s no one else here.”
“Oh, you’re right.” He grinned, laughing a little. “Try the banana cream flavour, it’s interesting.”
“Hee, you know I don’t really like banana things.”
“It’s more cream than banana. Actually, I can hardly taste the banana.” He took a piece and popped it into your mouth, watching intently as you chewed. You hummed in surprise.
“You’re right, I can hardly taste the banana.” You smiled, taking a small handful and eating the kernels slowly. Heechan took a sip of the Cola and settled into his own seat. The film started as most romance films do – boy meets girl, but the timing is wrong. The first major incident was about to move the storyline along, but all you could focus on was Heechan’s gaze on your face. You used your peripheral vision to look over, and sure enough, his gaze was focused intently on you. You took another handful of popcorn, your eyes never breaking from the screen. “Hee, the movie’s over there.”
“I know.” He mused, angling his head to get a better view of your face.
“You paid for the whole theatre, but you’re not watching the movie.”
“I know.” His voice was barely a whisper. His fingers rubbed soft circles in your shoulder as he continued to look at you. Finally, you broke your gaze at the screen to meet Heechan’s. His face showed content, gentle eyes memorising every inch of your features, a small smile playful on his lips. You reached out your hand to cup his cheek, caressing it with your thumb.
“Hi.” You murmured.
“Hi, angel.” He replied, inching his face closer to yours. Butterflies started fluttering around your heart as you stared at the man mere centimetres away from you. His gaze flicked to your lips and back to your eyes, his tongue flicking out to lick his top lip. He moved closer, closer, closer, until your lips met in the middle. He pressed a featherlight kiss to your lips, savouring the taste of you after so long apart. Another featherlight kiss, and another, and another, until he abruptly pulls himself away, wiping at his mouth and staring at the screen. You furrowed your brow in confusion, stilled by his sudden movement.
“What’s wrong?” You asked.
“Nothing, nothing.” You could feel the distance he had made between you, almost like there was an invisible wall between your bodies. He wiped his hand over his sweatpants-covered thigh and cleared his throat.
“Did I do something wrong?” You asked, your voice quiet as a mouse. Heechan’s head whipped round to look at you.
“Of course not, angel!” He soothed, taking your hands in his spare one, his thumb grazing your knuckle. “It’s just…”
“What?”
“Ah, it’s just… I paid for us to enjoy the movie alone… But, all I can think about is kissing you until my lips fall off.” His expression changed to something of desperation, and you couldn’t help but laugh out loud, tears pricking at your eyes.
“I have some good news for you.” You mused, standing and offering your hand out to his. “I also want to kiss you until my lips fall off.”
“But, angel… The movie…”
“We can watch it on DVD.” You smiled at Heechan, and as he took your hand his face broke out into a grin. The sound of the film still playing inside the screen was drowned out by your laughter as Heechan chased another kiss from you. “You realise you rented out an entire cinema just to leave twenty minutes into the movie?”
“Worth every won.” Heechan pressed you against the corridor wall, his hands pawing at your hips.
“Hee!” You playfully patted him on the chest.
“I’m serious.” He stole another quick kiss. “Besides, I got exactly what I wanted.”
“And what’s that?” You tilted your head as his grip tightened.
“Time with you.” He smiled, capturing your lips in his. Your chest ached with affection for him.
“That was disgustingly cheesy.”
“You love it.” Heechan winked.
“Unfortunately, I do.” You sighed. He grinned triumphantly and laced his fingers through yours.
“Come on.”
“Where are we going?”
“Home.”
“To watch the movie?” You teased as you rode the escalator downstairs. Heechan nearly tripped over his own feet.
“Angel.” He warned, and you burst out laughing as he tugged you down the corridor. The employee at the ticket desk tried – and failed – to hide her smile as the two of you hurried past.
The cool evening air hit your face the moment the theatre doors opened, but Heechan barely seemed to notice. He was already pulling you closer, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before guiding you towards the waiting taxi.
The movie could wait.
After all, nights like this didn’t come round nearly often enough.
