Summary: Â College AU. Cara needs to pass calculus if she's going to move up to Division I softball. Kahlan wants to win her ex-boyfriend Richard back from Denna, but needs to learn how to be more dominant if she's going to succeed. It seems like a mutually beneficial exchange of services.
K, so this is like my favorite Seeker AU ever. Â In lieu of explaining why I like it so much, I'll just post one of the favorite parts:
âYouâve always been a good girl, havenât you?â she asked, though it was clear she wasnât interested in an answer. She moved slowly and with purpose, circling Kahlan like a hawk with its prey. âTop of your class. Teacherâs pet. You had a perfect small-town high school relationship with a perfect small-town high school boy. You held hands and watched movies, and it was just like the fairy tales had told you it would be. And then one day you werenât enough, and your perfect boyfriend moved on to someone who could give him what he needed. He got tired of chaste kisses and fumbling around in the backseat of cars. You just werenât interesting enough anymore.â
Cara stopped behind Kahlan, her hands coming to rest on Kahlanâs hips. âHe thought you were boring.â
âNo,â Kahlan said, blinking back sudden and unexpected tears. âStop it.â
âHe was wrong,â Cara said, the words a low whisper that sent a chill up Kahlanâs spine. âSome people think they deserve to have the things they want without working for them. Heâs like that. He wants the comfort of never having to make a decision for himself. It would be so easy, wouldnât it? Bending to someone elseâs every whim. But youâre not like that, are you?â Cara moved in front of Kahlan, a hand at the back of her head forcing her gaze down so that they were eye-to-eye. They were close, almost touching. âYou know it takes more than mindless obedience to hold someoneâs interest. You fight for what you want.â
She did, Kahlan wanted to agree.
âYou have to want something in here,â Cara said, her hand slipping down until her palm was pressed flat over Kahlanâs heart. âIf youâre going to give yourself over to someone, itâs going to be because theyâve earned it.â
Kahlan nodded her head jerkily, breath coming increasingly fast.
Cara smiled knowingly. âIâm willing to work very, very hard.â
